Default Looking for a Tig Welder AC/DC

Well I have been searching for a few weeks now and I am ready to buy. But I havn't decided on a welder yet. I would like to keep it under $1500. I found This on Ebay.http://cgi.ebay.com/New-160-Am...wItem I think it sounds too good to be true. And I really don't want to throw away $1200. I am open to any and all feedback, please help.

let me ask you what your going to be welding?? how thick? 160amps would be enough to weld up to around 1/4inch steel with decent penetration as for as aluminum 1/4inch wouldnt weld to well. I recently just did a nice root pass on 1/4 inch aluminum and I was running at 180amps. I think you would be ok though, you could always just preheat with your torch.

Dont buy it. You will probably have a hard time trying to find replacement parts. Customer service may not be that good, especially for an off-the-wall name. What is the thickest and what type of material do you plan on welding? That is the most important thing you need to decide.

I also was concerned about finding replacement parts for it. I plan on welding aluminum, probably 1/4 inch thick for intake manifolds, but mainly steel for ehaust maniflods, exhaust systems etc...

What do you guys think of the Miller Econotig it still only goes to 160 amps.

Well what would you recomend?

i was in your shoes a while ago, and then i wanted something that could weld aluminum. and then something reliable. and with a warrenty just incase it crapped out.
so i got a lincohn 225 syncrowave i paid 1700 i think.

its worth spending the extra few hundred bucks to get something good now
