wtf? my idle is fucked!....throttle body problems?
was good, i just recently did an ls-v proj. on my 94 teg. it didn't act up at first, but all of a sudden my car is idling at damn near 2.5 grand or if not that fluctuating between 2.5 grand and normal idle...(going up and down as if i didn't have antifreeze), theres antifreeze in the reseviour though. it's not the idle screw, because whenever iv'e driven the car and start it back up again, it idles normally until i start actually driving again....then it goes crazy. i was told that my throttle body could be bad (i am using an ls throttle body on a skunk2 gsr manifold, i don think it makes a difference), but i rode around with out an intake for a while and visually the throttle body looked closed and alright, how do these things go bad IF mines is bad? somebody help! i amost feel like im bout to break my motor cuz of this ****, its still kinda cold outside!
The IACV is the idle air control valve. It is located on the back of the intake manifold. You can clean it on the car by finding the appropriate port in the throttle body that is drawing air at idle. Spray carburetor cleaner in that hole while the car is running. This draws the cleaner through the IACV. You can also remove it and soak it.
The IACV is part 21.

It is simply an electrically controlled plunger that lets in air for idle.

to this guy. Whatever thread I see him post in, hes always giving a helping hand of his knowledge. Granted I haven't reaped the benefits, but props to you for all of the others you have helped here that I have seen.

It sounds like it is not fully clean. How did you clean it? Did you reset the ECU?

i had the same problem after not driving my car for a while i had coolant in the resevoir also but after a short time after start i had idle bounce turned out i had forgoten to put coolant in the RADIATOR! duh
Umm you need to take the IACV fully apart, so when you take the valve off, unscrew the plastic cover/tensioner for the spring inside the IACV housing. Throw it all in a bucket of simple green or clean it with brake cleaner, rinse it out, put it back together (tightly, because putting it together loose usually fingerbangs the idle as badly as it not being cleaned at all) and reinstall. Also, the FITV (fast idle thermo valve) usually creates similar problems as the IACV, its located directly under the throttle body on an LS if I remember correctly, in a harder to reach location than the IACV, and you clean it in a similar way. Hope this helps
