Default Problem on my 1992 Civic DX Sedan

This is my first Honda ever. I just bought it last fall and it is a fun car to drive. More fun than my old Nissan Sentra SE. I got the car for 150 bucks and it was smoking bad. I knocked most of it out but some still remain. The engine is a stock d15 with 88 thousand miles on it.

Problem 1
My car has an idling issue. Isearched this forum for the leaks, FITV, so on and so on......
I have a surging idle then if i add coolant to the ride it idles high for a while then goes up for a sec then after like 5mins or so it quites down and the fan comes on and it purrrrrrs like a kitten. If my coolant is low and if the engine is cold the car's idle will go up and stay high then go up even higher. After that, the surging will begin. The car will rev high then die off constantly. I drive it around just to warm up the engine so it will stop surging.

Problem 2
My car smokes lol. After the engine warms up it wants to smoke a little. Then if I come to a dead stop like in a drive-thru like taco bell, you can see the smoke. Shortly after that, The smoking stops. I changed the air filter and spark plugs a few days ago and the old plug that was nearest to the ignition was covered in oil. Even the tip. So I think that maybe a ring is worn. Then when I look at the tailpipe, it looks semi wet like the tip has been dipped in water then if i run the car even longer it dries out.

I am in the process of just trying to get the car to run right b4 I make any mods to it.
You comments would be appreciated.

BTW I am a new member.

You might have a blown head gasket. Could be the rings or valve seals are leaking. Do a leak-down test and go from there. Also, your iacv is most likely causing your idle surge. Take your intake pipe off and cover the top hole inside the TB which is the iacv valve with your finger and see if the idle goes down to normal. If it does, then its a iacv problem. Actually, first place to start is to check your engine codes.

sounds like head gasket, most of the time if you fill the rad. and leave the cap off, start the motor and see if coolant shoots out of the rad. if it does needs head gasket, if not you need to find out where coolant is going

yea but i use spray silicone(safer), also u can put your palm over the t.b. while the car is running, if it cuts off most likely not gasket, if it trys to stay running i think you're headed in the wright direction
