help...bad gas mileage
i have a '94 gsr with only an intake and my car has been getting horrible gas mileage ever since i bought it and its really been a bother...i got new plugs(cheap autolites) when i first bought it and flushed the coolant(replaced with 50/50 honda coolant) and also a couple other maintenence i shouldve done...i havent replaced the fuel filter or 02 sensor or thermostat though...i drive pretty conservatively shifting at 2.5k-3k along with the occasional spirited driving...i didnt get on it once today and drove a total of about 35 miles(about 30 of it was highway) and i used almost 1/4 of a tank...i highly doubt thats the average mpg on a gsr and i really need some pointers because i cant afford to be using this much gas...last i checked the tire pressure was at 32psi on all four(about 2 weeks ago) and also my temperature seems to stay only about 1/4 of the way up at the most from the cold side(usually only about 1/8)...could that be a reason its burning soo much gas??

Check the Fuel filter, if the car is running really cool, th eprevious owner may have removed the thermostat so check that, Also did you gap your plugs properly?? plugs gapped incorrectly can hurt mileage.
Did you fill your tank back up to verify the gas usage or are you just using the gauge as a reference? Try calculating Miles Per Gallon to compare to what others are getting (tons of threads on here)
Do this:
1. Fill your tank up to the top and reset the trip meter
2. Drive it for a while...Taking it as near to E as possible is best, but at least half-tank will do.
3. Fill up your tank again...preferably at same gas station because some shut off at different points
4. Divide MILES by GALLONS USED.
Some other things.. How long have you had the car? Are you sure there are no other modifications such as a chipped ECU? Any check-engine lights? Any smoke coming from the exhaust?

well i put in 7.5 gallons in a few days ago and ive driven about 125 miles and now the gauge is at the same spot as before i put gas in...ive had this car since september last year and ive never checked the ecu but i doubt that its chipped since it was bone stock when i got it...no CEL or smoke coming out of the exhaust...my air filter is still good

Don't trust the gauge. You need to fill up again and compare how many gallons you put in to how many miles you drove.

get rid of the plugs ngk's are not that much. u need to ck the reading of the coolant temp sensor, if its off it will make for horrible gas milage. o2s will also do the same thing, start the car and hold at 2800 rpms for about a min if ck engine comes on its a o2s. try those first
