Transmission woes
My at trans on my 6th gen I4 is going out. Got a quote for a rebuild for 1,850 to 2,250. Does this sound reasonable? Being my only car I dont have the time to source parts and do a MT swap my self(what I would rather do) but oh well. I'm really just venting I guess.
Who is the rebuilder and how much experience building Honda transmissions?
does the rebuilder offer any kind of warranty?
The price seems to be right on up at the top of the limits, at least for my area of the country.

99 accord 2dr about 128 miles its an aamco shop. It wont change gears when its cold unless i put it in N then back into drive or sometimes if I manually shift through the gears it will engauge. When warmed up it becomes less pronounced at lower speeds/rpm's but is still deffinetly a problem if I try and drive hard.
I just saw a '96 LX (but with moonroof) with 134,000 miles, manual transmission, for about $3,300.
I'm saying that because you may consider trying to find something like this LX - or you may try to find somebody to do the auto to manual swap for you. Dropping $2K on a rebuild... what sort of warranty is he giving?

try to look for a different tranny. i found one for 650 with 5k miles on it (car had been in an accident and wasnt repaired) and it only cost 200 to drop it in.
The 6th gen auto's suck....mine went completely out - won't shift out of first. Sucks driving 4k RPM just to go 25-30. Getting it swapped to manual this week.
If the rebuilt tranny has a 10 year warranty, I would go for that because you WILL have problems with it again if it's an automatic. My tranny barely made it to 100k and it's sitting in front of the house at 104,900.....sucks.

I'm doing the auto to manual swap this week. I'm out of a car while doing it...that's what friends are for
It's worth it in the long run though....South Sound traffic sucks major anus, so the constant clutch in and out will get annoying but hey - whatever.

Where did you find the transmission at such a low price? I need to buy one.
