Default Best In dash DVD players for under $400

Yes for under $400, I believe there's a few. I know I know you get what you pay for blah blah but hey just want to buy one that I can play music and watch DVD here and there. I'm not thumpin 12's or 15's, just want the ability to watch DVD's and not cough up $1000. I don't want this to turn into a bashing thread of cheaper quality companies too but just honest reviews and not being baise.

I have an Alpine 9855 and with all the features it has I just don't use it to it's abilities because I'm not a audio guy at all.
How about these

What about Jensens, I know Jensens not the best but will they do for a non audio freak like me.

I don't know how to be "baise" but I'll tell you that Jensens pretty much suck.

We sold the Jensen flip-out units a couple of years back and were swapping them out once a week it seemed...

If you buy one, buy the extended warranty because you're gonna need it.

for under $400 u wont get one with a 7" screen. 'Jensen' is the only one i've seen so cheap with a large screen. i've seen under $400 with tiny screens.
idk if u like 'Dual' but they make one with a 7" screen for $450

As long as it works well enough. Again I don't need it to control everything and do everything since I don't live in the car. Just need it for longer road trips and to mess around with a bit.

Ok so what is the cheapest DVD unit that has good reviews. I guess I wouldn't mind spending a bit more but for sure I don't want to spend around $1000

It's not a matter of the HU controlling some huge system. The price of the headunit is also going to determine it's quality. Unless you get a decent brand used (and even then, it would have to be a great deal), you would be making a mistake wasting your $400 on something you will not be happy with and that you'll have to replace in a short amount of time.

The install alone is going to set you back around $160, and most likely this is not something you will want to attempt to install yourself unless you have installed several stereos in the past.

DO NOT BUY Jensen or Dual.

Get like a used, 2 year old Pioneer or at least a Panasonic or just save up for now.

i have to disagree with some of the argument about jensen. At my shop (circuit city roadshop) we just got the new line of jensen monitors. they look pretty sweet and have some good functions... and btw the resolutions much better than the previous models. Me personally.. being an installer would purchase the jensen monitor. I like it.. and u can always get the protection plan on it. if anything goes wrong with it, circuit city will swap it out for a new one without any hassle.

i work as an installer for best buy..surprisingly our Dual screens are much cleaner than any of our alpine or pioneer screens costing more than twice the price. sounds qualtiy isnt so bad either the only downside i would see is no ipod control capabiliies

i forgot who makes it ....but there's a company that makes a 1/2 or 1/3 din motorized flipout screen...it might be audiovox or fahrenheit...i'll check

if you are simply looking for a screen (as you already have a source unit) you can just use the screen for video....as the unit i speak of is just the flipout screen itself

^^^yeah but I don't really want to mount a screen anywhere else so I'd rather have the DVD unit all in one...if that's what you're talking about.

Yeah it's the same arguement, some brands get a bad rep so they are labeled bad no matter what. Maybe Jensen are not the best, but the question is are they good enough.

I know if I buy from circuit city or best buy I'll get the extra warrantee but if I buy online then I can't do that but it's cheaper. That is why I'm doing research here to see if the risk is worth it.

just like car insurance...i'd rather pay a few extra bucks for a BNIB unit w/ a full warranty knowing that something prolly won't happen but if it does...i'm covered....that's a risk you have to decide if it's worth taking
