Default Fiberglass?? Metal??

Okay...My CRX has the signature Honda rust behind the back wheels on the rear quarter panel of both sides of the car. Both of the rust spots are about 2"-2.5" in diameter. It needs to be fixed soon. My question is this: Has any one else here fixed their rust problem in these spots?

I don't know if I should cut the rust off and weld new metal, or if i should go down the fiberglass path and cut off the rust and mold the fiberglass where metal should be. Any suggestions on how to fix this? On the driver's side, it is completely rusting away in that one spot. The passenger side looks as though it has'nt made it all the way through yet. Somebody please help! I'm starting to get self conscious about the rust ... If I need to take pictures i can do so...

Thanks Alot!

I have a few small spots to fix myself on the new hatch. I'm thinking that welding a piece of metal and then using a tad bit of body filler is probably most effecient (sp? tired, got 2 hrs sleep) Fiberglass takes time to layer up and you'd have to make some form of backing to mold onto... seems like more work IMO. I'll be going the metal route.

Actually they would both work fine. But 99.9 percent of the time its best to use metal. Metal is cheaper, easyer, and it keeps it the way it was. The only downside to using metal is that alot of people do not have a welder handy.

Fiberglass does cost alittle extra, and is harder to do right if you have never used fiberglass. The plus side to fiberglass is that, well fiberglass cannot rust. So you dont ever have to worry about the rust coming back in that spot.

Actually the best method to use fiberglass would be to go behind the spot and put acouple layers of fiberglass. Ofcourse this is after you have already cut out all the rust..Then you would use a product like "tigerhair" to layer over the outside till everything was smooth. With another layer of glazing over top and you would be finished.

I think the metal route would be best...I can get a cheap arc welder or something...I need one anyways. Thanks for the input guys! I'll be sure to take pics of the whole process and make a write-up for it when the time comes!
