Default checking used engines

Finally i have everything setup.
I have been savin my money buyin things here and their to make the swap lil easier and quick.
So far i got my oil and water pump ready, new plugs and cables, conversion harness from rywire and i have my gaskets set as well.
Now wat i want to know is how do i go inspecting the engine and tranny?
Im plannin on gettin the H22 from hmotorsonline made appointment to pick up the engine and their lettin me choose.
I know i need to do a compression test, and turn the engine crank manually right to check if its seized.
What is a leak test? and how do u go on doin that?
and what else do i need to do to inspect the engine for it can be a good one?
Also plannin gettin the LSD tranny as well for 300 more and bustin my *** to get what i want so how do inspect the tranny and how can u tell if its LSD or not ?

Are these imported JDM motors? Besides compression testing and manual cranking, there's not a whole lot you can do to know the interior condition of the engine. If they are imported one thing I do recommend is pulling off the valve covers, takes a few extra seconds. Pick the one that looks the cleanest. Lots of times they will have gummed up oil in the head from either sitting for a long time or not being maintained when they were being used in japan.

I'd also recommend new timing belt, crank and cam seals, and a new cap and rotor for the dist.

If you have time to take an oil sample and wait for the results the analysis can tell you what kind of wear has taken place and if it is within normal parameters.

19mm, you need a deep socket, or an extension for the crank. Bring with you a 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm for anything else you decide to check out while you are there, wrenches in those sizes are handy too.
for a leak test, you presurize the combustion chamber and leave the gauge on and see how fast the pressure goes down.... it shouldnt be very fast at all.
An lsd tranny... look through the center where the axles go, if there is a bar in the middle of that hole then it is not an LSD tranny, if there is no bar running through the hole, then it is LSD.
Its a manual transmission, its hard to screw them up in the first place, just count on replacing the fly wheel and the clutch... maybe the throwout bearing and fork too, but nothing major, so dont worry about... besides it would have to be in a car or taken apart to test.
