Difference between obd1 b18b and obd2
The story is i think i got ripped off when I let some one do a motor swap in my car. I had a 94 b18b(converted to obd2) fully swapped in my 97 civic. I got word that the person who did my swap took my motor and put some bunk *** 96+ b18b in my car, and sold my motor. Is there any way I can tell the difference by extra lines, parts, fittings, sensors, numbers, anything that distinguish the difference??? Going to the police is my last resort.
Look at the vin on the bottom of the block it will tell you what year the motor is. Valve cover is also different on obd1 and obd2 ls motors but i think they are interchangeable. Cylinder head will also have the year stamped on the front of it. Why is your obd1 b18b better than a 96+ b18b? Unless you had real low mileage or some internal modifications, you are probably better off with the newer motor.
Are you talking about the number that is under the "B18B". My motor had an act prolite flywheel but it theres a possibility that I got stuck with a better motor as much as a fucked up one. Its just that what they did is the fucked up thing and i dont want to jump the gun and start pointing fingers just yet.
on the head above the header, there are several circles. the first has a 9 in one half of it and the second is the actual year. ex 9/6 would be a 96

Look for the green plate at the bottom of the front of the block right above the oil pan, this number is your motor's vin. Search for VIN on honda-tech and find out which of the letters corresponds to the year the car/motor was made and see if yours matches to what it should be.
If it's Really an obd2 motor, just look on the back of the block to the right(passenger side) of the oil filter,
There should be a small black box with 2 hoses coming out of the top.
Those boxes did Not come on 96+, so you should know that easily.
And no, it's not something easily swapped.

I jacked up the car and i dont see a green plate, or any numbers above the oil pan. I tried to look at the several circles on the head but their really fucked up so I cant read them. What about the numbers under "B18B"?

That's only a serial number, I believe, so I'm not sure how you can identify it through that,
but look for the black box like I said in the previous post.

obd2 bseries motors have a crank positioning sensor. its located behind the timing cover.. so if there's a wire sticking out of there its obd2 if no wire is there its obd1...
