Default replacing m2a4 transmission

Well here it goes. Ive got a 94 prelude with an h22a swap. vfacII, i/h/e adjustable coilovers etc etc, I bought it from a 16 year old kid who wasnt exactly kind to it.

This 22 year old kid isnt super easy on it either. Back in december my third gear gave up, im guessing its a syncro. ive been driving it this whole time with no third and ive got enough finally to get it taken care of. rather than pay someone to tear it out and repair it, i think it would be cheaper to replace it. there is an m2a4 in there now.

what I ask of you dearest honda-tech.com prelude forum is, whats the best way of going about replacing this thing? im going to pay someone to do it right, I know that much, but im having a hard time finding an m2a4. is this the only transmission thats going to work, could I say put an m2f4 in there? ive tried to figure this out on my own and im just failing miserably. i humbly ask for your guidance.

You'll have a hard time finding the m2a4 in junk yards. Its a JDM tranny...

i have looked into it and you might have to replace it with whatever is available since the m2a4's are hard to get.

All h/f 5 speed manuals should work for you...which should be

m2y4
m2b4
m2f4

and the trannys out of the 90-97 accords (f series) I believe will fit.
94-97 will work with the VTEC

the only problem is that they are not as strong as the prelude tranny but should be okay if your car is not boosted or juiced.

make sure you read the FAQ's
there is a thread there i know, because i made it lol

it's a nearly complete list of all the H and F series tranny codes that can be used along with some other useful info.

here is the link direct...

also you may just want to rebuild with carbon coated syncros, unless you find a used tranny you know is in good shape......don't want to have the next one go out as well
i know blacktrax sells carbon coated syncros

I actually did see that, I guess I just got a little lost with the different h22as there are, all these transmissions and what would work. thanks again though
