I got these piston rings from hastings and i dont know which one is the top ring

I got these piston rings from hastings and i dont know which one is the top ring

I do have a helms manual but the hastings directions says that the mark faces upward if i were to make the mark face upward on the rings it would put the grooves on the piston rings in the wrong spot

please help
