in order to safety the nut, you are supposed to dent the top of it in to a notch on the axle. if you don't un-dent the nut, you'll have a very hard time getting it off.

hit the brakes and use a breaker bar .. you'll get more torque from it. and you might need to extened the handle of the bar

when the axle nuts get overtightened not even a braker bar will do it you will snap off the 1/2 inch head of the braker bar.... the only way you will get it off is with an impact wrench.. trust me has happened to me twice broke my braker bar and 2 ratchets...

I used a bar just like that when my ratchet just snapped. Shew it was a close one. Anyways, I remember taking my Craftsman ratchet back to sears....
Salesman"hello how can I help you"
Me"I broke my ratchet and I am needing to replace it"
"Ok, wow our ratchets are hard to break, did you use a cheater bar"
"hmmm, no..."
"Ok, just making sure...heres your new ratchet"

The whole time I have a brace on my hand..haha

The sad part is that I still do it..haha.
I mean its really the only way to remove it. I guess you just have to trust your craftsman.

Well when you dont have a compressor to turn on it makes it alittle harder.

I am working on getting one though.

i wouldnt do that. you could risk breaking your lugs. just have someone step on the brake pedal. i too have broken a ratchet trying to take this nut off. impact gun would be nice but not everyone has one. breaker bar should work just fine.
