Default Honda '97 Accord (135K miles) Radiator Replacement

Discovered a crack in the top of the radiator this morning after overheating last night

Any tips or pointers regading it's replacement ?

I plan on replacing with an aftermarket unit from Advnce Auto Parts or NAPA
I know I will need to replace some Auto Tranny fluid in the process. Wouldn't you know I just did a D&F on the AT fluid not two or three hundred miles ago

Best regards
Mike

I don't see why you'd have to replace the tranny fluid. I know the transmission fluid runs through the radiator but there should be no reason to change the fluid or add more. You didnt seem to crack the part where the tranny fluid exchanges heat with the coolant.

Replacing radiator...take your time. Use a heavy amount of WD-40 on the bolts. They are probaly really rusty. Don't waste your time with trying to keep the shrouds (fans) on...take them off...its not too hard.

Good Luck.

Well not to be an ******* to others here, but I take it all out as one big chunk, I leave the fans on and take the trans cooler lines off at the transmission tubes, tuck them into the fans, and the lower radiator hose I take loose from the T-stat housing; throw it on a bench and swap fans/hoses out where it is easy to do, then slam it all back in as a big chunk. [just like they are assembled at the factory] The only hassle is tucking the lower radiator hose under the A/C low side line.
But then again I've probably only changed 200-300 or so radiators in my career.

HAHAHA yeah i second that. I haven't changed nearly as many as hondadude, but that is the easiest way to do it without a doubt. And like hondadude said, don't be suprised if you spend more time on the lower radiator hose then you do on the radiator itself. Unless you have really small hands, expect to use your full arsenal of swear words in the process.
