Default New Civic hatch owner

My story:

My mom just bought a 2000 Civic DX hatchback yesterday. I think its a great little car and I want to mod it for her a little. She doesn't care about going fast and its an automatic, but I wouldn't mind a little more punch for when I drive it.

Can you guys suggest some worthwhile mods? Doesn't have to be just engine. I'm completely new to the Honda scene, I don't know a damn thing about engine and chassis codes or anything. I drive a 1990 BMW 325i which is mildly modded and I frequent http://www.dtmpower.net and their forums.

hoping to learn some about Hondas

Here is my car in my DTM Power signature:

if you want it to look good also i would drop it about a 1 1/2, and i would put intake header and exhaust, thoise would be the first mods. but remember its your moms car and you do not want to put to much money into it and you should put that money towards you car, but i know what your saying those cars are slow my mom has a 98 dx auto it is soo fukin slow, only mod is a broadway mirror and since i put that in it feels soo much faster....

Can you suggest any intake and cat-back exhaust options? Is a K&N drop in a good idea or would a cone be worth it? And I'm sure my mom wouldn't want a loud exhaust so something with a smallish tip would be good I guess.

Also, where can I go to learn about chassis and engine codes and all that good stuff?
