hi everyone, i have 2.0 litre ex, twin carbs, the car is playing up, so am hoping for some pearls of wisdom.
symptoms are, car will not rev past 2000 revs on a run. if i put clutch in it still will not rev high, about 2800 revs. stood still it will rev fine.
car is 62000 miles, sohc, has recently been seviced.
when i say will not rev past 2000 revs on a run, the car gets to 2000 then judders, and loses revs. if you floor it, the car just loses revs also.
have checked the carb linkage, it "seems" to be okay.
i can't seem to get hold of a manual (haynes) for the car. so have no real idea what gismo's the car has,ie, sensors, etc.
any help, advice gratefully recieved.thanks.

sounds like really dirty carbs. may need a rebuild, miles?

 

hi Import Prelude & jdmlude5, thanks for replies. lucky i have some spare carbs, so i will clean them up and see if i can fit them, bit of a plumbers nightmare! guess i'll be taking loads of photos!

 

lol ya my friend had the same problem. turned out that his maf sensor wasnt plugged in and it stopped revving at 2500 rpm. we plugged it in and problemo solved

 

I have had that same prob on another kind of car and it was a cloged exhaust so there are some things to test.

IT SHOULD BE ON YOUR THROTTLE BODY OR SOMEWHERE ON YOUR INTAKE. ITS JUST ONE PLUG THAT WOULD BE EASY TO PLUG IN. YOU SHOULD GO TO PEPBOYS AMD THEYLL HELP YOU.

 

MAF sensor? Carbs? Try again.

It's not your MAF sensor. You don't have one. I'd go with the clean and rebuild on the carb.

 

I had something almost like that once. Like the one guy mention, it was a clogged exhaust as the baffles were all broken up and clogged it.

checked service reciept, all service items listed.
thought, okay, car needs 13 parts air, 1 part fuel,right?
so decided to check air filter.
clogged.
pulled it out, started car, vvrrrrooooommmmmmmmmmmmm!
sorted.
happy.
going for a spin. yyeeeehhhhhaaaaaaa!
looks as if the service omitted filter, even though its listed on reciept.will be having a word in there shell like.

Carb's don't have maf's, so it was the air filter. Good to hear you got it solved.
