Default Track Day....f*ck silicone couplers!

Well after a visit to Gainesville Raceway I come back to share the news. This is the first time running by boosted GSR.
I only got 2 runs in. 2nd one cost me a blown coupler soooo...no more runs till I get longer silicone couplers and 3'' clamps....2.3'4 own me.

1st run.

14.2 @ 102.47 mph with 2.44 60'. Yeah I know, even feathering the clutch off the line i had to let off completely of the accelerator to catch some traction.

2nd run

14.6 @ 82.6 mph with 2.3 60'. Again...traction kills me. But I had improved all, 1/8 mile, 330', 1000' until coupler went kaboom shifting to 4th. I hit the brakes and cruise through the finish line.

Stay tuned for slips...im waiting for a new computer.

Silcione couplers should not be used to hold 2 pipes together, but their main purpose is to seals off air/pressure from 2 pipes connected together..

FOr example, if your IC pipe do not lined up and off by 1/2", so you tried to FORCED them as close as you can with a silicone couplers and tighten the living crap out of it with T bolt clamps. The first time your pipe sees positive pressure, it's gonna blow out. My point is, your IC pipe should lined up perfectly and the silicone couplers should do its job by sealing off the joint between 2 pipes.

I ran 54 lbs of boost with a silicone couplers before switching to wiggins and never blew a single coupler. But a lot of people have blown them out at 7-10 psi of boost...that should tells you something...

Exactly why I run 100% wiggins clamps.

I never had a silicone coupler blow off before though. Just like Stan said, if you have everything lined up dead nuts then you shouldn't have a problem.

I run 22psi with a SC61...t bolts/silicon have never failed me. I never had a pipe blow off when I was using a regular hose clamp either. Pipes aren't bead rolled...but they're perfectly lined up.

Without beads they will pop off, it's only a matter of time. Proper beads, proper alignment, and the right size couplers, you should never have one pop off with regular worm clamps.
