Default Need assistance in choosing HID's

hey you might think its lame but ive been doing some research and cant find a solid answer. I'm getting HID's but need some input from people who already have them. My car already has projector headlights so the cutoff should be fine but i need to know about reliability, color, clarity (lol starting to sound like a diamond)

Any help whould be great.

and please add choices if you know better ones

They're all about the same under $200.

Some of the McCulloch kits and phillips kits are supposed to have better patterns though.

I recommend getting these bulbs if you don't have projectors.

it all depends on what your looking for truthfully.

u rather have most visability or wanna look nice with colored hid's?

if u want visability then ur best bet is to stick to the lower heat hid's. like 6k. very bright great visability.

if ur like and wanna look good then depends on what color ur looking for. 10k will give blue. 12k will give some purple *****. and any higher u starting gettin into pink colors (these are nice too)

i threw some pix up so u can see what i have. i am a fan od the purple hid's

GL on the search

for gods sake. why the hell do people insist on getting hids that are "pretty" what is the point of spending hundreds on hids to get a pink ******* headlight? on top of the fact anything over 6500k is illegal and thats on top of the fact that hids in any car that didn't come with them on any trim level of the car are illegal. no cop enforces this but still. if you get into blue at about 8k they can and will pull you over and there goes your 200 some dollars. anything over 8 and you start to become more red which guess what, red is also illegal. this includes purple. stay below 6500k for the most ACTUAL light produces and the best vision and will keep you safe from harassment from the police.

Get a F1 spec HID kit...they're water proof and have a 2yr warranty unlike others that have a 1 year. And also, for the best light output, get a 4300k. It yields better lumens than the higher K temp HIDs which means brighter output.

Just remember for HIDs, higher K temps don't mean brighter output.

Do a retrofit, because your projectors aren't designed for HID's. 4300k is going to give you the best light output.

halogen projectors don't have good cut off with hid, you have to get a hid projector to have a nice cut off

id stay someplace between 6k and 7k.

i have 7ks on my eg, and they're brighter than my buddies 6ks, but i have jdm headlights (so they're plastic with no light defuser shield thing). they look really good to me. my other buddies with the 6ks has them on stock ej1 glass headlights and my other homie has 6.5ks on his ef9 oem headlights.

just dont go any higher than 7ks imo because the light gets too blue.

I dont have HID's myself but I plan on getting. I have done research myself and apparently for best visibility one should get 6000K. All car manufacturers apparently dont use higher than this and to get the cool blue effects, they use other techniques in combination with 6000K lights.

However, I dont think these 'alternative' techniques are applicable to the normal joe and I have no idea what they are. I plan on getting myself 8000K ones.
If its not what you want, then you just trade the lights - its not like you have to buy a completely new HID system (*from the HID kits Ive seen anyway). New lights cost about R300 for a pair here apparently, which means its less about 20U$D there perhaps?

^ OEMs don't intentionally make the lights blue. The coloration is a product of the optics of the projectors.

~4100k offers the best light output, as it is closest to pure white. Anywhere above or below that, and light output (Lumens) decreases.

Stay with 4,000-6000k. Otherwise its not even an upgrade really. Its just colored light. When I do HIDs ill get them within the 4k range.

Why are you bumping this? There are tons of HID threads, and IIRC, there's even one in the FAQ.
