Default Manual tranny fluid for 6th gen? Synthetic...

I was running Royal Purple Max ATF in my automatic tranny. Going to be doing a manual swap so I need to know what kind of fluid I should get. I'm wanting to run synthetic, so should I run Max-Gear or Synchromax?

Taken from Royal Purple's website:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Max-Gear is recommended for use in truck, motor home / RV, and automotive front or rear differentials, manual transmissions and lower gear units of marine engines that specify use of an API GL-5 or GL-4 fluid.</TD></TR></TABLE>

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Synchromax is recommended for manual transmissions that specify an automatic transmission fluid or motor oil. It is also ideal for 4x4 transfer cases and / or 2-cycle and 4-cycle motorcycle gear boxes.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I know Synchromax says it is ideal for 2 cycle and blah blah, but I'm not sure whether the tranny needs ATF or what.

I just did a 5spd swap with a fully rebuild H23 trans in my 6th gen. Gearspeed also installed a LSD and they recommend only using honda MTF. So does the majority of people on HT.

The only reason I was running synthetic in my auto was because of the heat issue I was having. If you're doing fine on Honda MTF and everyone else is as well, then I will use that. I'm just running basic bolt ons with occasional spray. Going to install a stage 3 racing clutch as well.

Yeah, MaxGear is for trannys that have been designed to take API GL4 or GL5 oil. That's NOT a modern Honda manual tranny. They're designed for Honda MTF which is close to a 10w-30 engine oil.

There won't be any problem running a stage 3 clutch and occasional NOS on Honda MTF right?

You dont NEED to use honda Mtf.. I use BG synchroshift II, supposed to be the best transmission fluid for fwd manual cars, And honestly, i had a laser and the trans shifted sluggish,i put in the synchroshift and it shifted soo smooth

Also ive used GM synchro mesh, and Lucas transmission fix mixed with 75w140
