You gotta drill holes, then put the OEM speaker cover back on .. you're done.

Yeah, if it's not oem .. chances are the speaker mounting locations are not going to match your door panel. Drill small holes, the speaker should cover your previous holes.

Get a component system, and replace your stock tweeters while you're at it.

I installed Infinity 6.5" in the front too. I'm not sure exactly what steps I took, but it shouldn't be anything more than making new holes. Who cares about the holes, you'll install them and never mess with them again. One thing I will warn you about is taking off the door panel properly. TAKE THE PLASTIC SWITCH PANEL OFF FIRST SO YOU DON'T BREAK IT like the rest of us have.

edit: I understand the OP now get a drill and cut the OEM mount to fit, or buy some spacer rings. I'm not sure how tall will cause them to hit the doorpanel.

Unless the Infinity's are retarded there should be holes to mount them. Most aftermarket speakers have several extra holes just for this sort of thing. Pics help.

As for the mounting depth if the OEM "pod" is to shallow you might be able to dremel out some of it. I did just alittle w/ my components(Polk db much better then any other speaker I listened to that wasn't more then double the price).

Also if you didn't get components you wasted money unless your OEM speakers are blown. If you got co-axial's then you need to disconnect your OEM tweets.

If you did get components you need an amp, get crackin' slacker

Just pull the front tweeter cover it sorta just pulls off towards the back and some to the opposite side of the car. Then just pull the wires off the tweeter. Tape them up so you don't get any grounding and you are done, put the cover back on.

You MIGHT get by with running both the coaxial and the tweeter if you have a decent amp, but my guess is that it would sound alot worse.

when you say the infinity speakers are too big for the stock speaker brackets, do you mean diameter wise that the circle is now wide enough for the speaker to sit flush or do you mean it's not deep enough for the speaker to sit flush?

if it's not big enough diameter wise, you can try to shave some our the inner side of the speaker bracket to make more room. if it's depth wise then you can cut off the back of the speaker bracket to accommodate the speaker. if both, then you got some heavy modding to do to the bracket (which is why i just threw the whole bracket out and bought the rings)

you can cut the back off the brackets like so:

I bought Infinities for my Prelude and I think that he means that the hole do not line up. I was lucky in the fact that the previous owner had paper polks put in in a long time ago and the shop fabbed this plastic ring that brings it out of the door like 1/4 of an inch. since the holes do not line up to factory I just screwed the ring into the factory holes then screwed the speakers onto the rings. I have to take it back apart because of some unwanted vibration so if you need to I can take pics when i tear it appart again.

Lots of folks in the know suggest making a mount of MDF. And just use the OEM holes to hold the MDF on. Just be careful to paint it or something so that it won't swell if there is water that gets on it.

hey guys, thanks for the responses. what im saying is, yeah depth wise, the inifinities wont fit. so yes, i can cut them like pictured.

HOWEVER, even after i do that, the speakers dont bolt up to the oem bracket, the mount holes on the infinity are too wide diameter wise

what "rings" did you buy DOHCVTEC190 ??

but i found these brackets on ebay and the guy says that they fit 4th gen lude

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...:US:1

do you think a place like best buy will have these? or some other local store? rahter get these things in fast than wait for ebay shpping

Those in the auction don't list the Prelude. They are to make a 5.25" OEM hole fit a 6.5" speaker. OEM Prelude doors are 6.5" unless the S model has smaller speakers as well as no OEM tweeter.

still dont understand why you need to disconnect your stock tweeter...... They dont have a negative effect on output if you leave them hooked up.

Unfortunately toe OEM speakers are closer to 6 than 6.5. But a lot of companies make the right size replacements, like Polk.

right, the stock speakers arent 6.5" they are smaller, and the holes dont line up anyway

the guy in the auction said they fit the preludes, and he needs to update the description. he put up a new one anyway. and, i think all those cars listed use 6.5" fronts anyway

http://cgi.ebay.com/6-Speaker-...wItem

but what i want to know now is, can i get these adapter brackets at local stores like best buy or circuit city or whatever? anyone have experience using them?

Well you may not need to, but because you have two 4ohm speakers hooked up that supplies a 2ohm load. Thats PROBABLY not a problem because there is more power needed to run the lower frequencies, which would be a bigger issue. This causes lower sound quality, and also do to there being twice as many sound signals there can be funny cancelation, and addition of different sound frequencies. Do what you want its your car. Most times the best thing to do is test both ways and decide what you like better.

I didn't realize that. I measured mine just to be sure good stuff.
