Well I just got back from a tuning session with Paul at Neetronix (highly regarded local tuner). I'm pretty pleased with the results so far. Besides the ringing in my head it looks like I am hitting my targets.
First I must stress that Paul's existing setup does not do a very good job of actually measuring power. He uses a Clayton dyno with his own software. This steady state dyno's does not measure power the same way DynoJet's do. It is very well understood that this dyno reads very low numbers.
The principle purpose for today was to get the A/F curves nailed and make sure the engine was running well.
It turns out that my basic street tune was fairly close and the tricky areas that I ran into on the street were indeed tricky even on the dyno. There is some wicked resonance issue at around 2500RPM at low vacuum that results in a very odd looking fuel table. (Anyone else running Pro1 cams see this?) Paul was able to run the engine at steady state (something you can't do on the street or DynoJet) and was able to precisely calibrate the fuel curves under all load conditions.
At the end of the day Paul did a simulated "DynoJet" pull. It recorded a peak number of 185WHP. Not very impressive but Paul figures these numbers are typically 12% lower then actual "DynoJet" numbers so factoring that I am easily breaking 200WHP. Breaking 210WHP should be possible. Edwin’s car was tuned by Paul 5 years ago and put down 165WHP on Pau’s dyno and the next day put down 185 WHP on a near by DynoJet.
The engine ran strong well past 9000RPM and peak power was achieve at nearly 8600RPM. This is exactly where this engine was designed to operate. The sound it made was very very nice…
Paul is acquiring a DynoJet later this month to complement his Clayton. When it arrives I will go back and have the ignition dialled in to achieve peak power. Right now the timing map is still fairly conservative. I’ll also be able to post some meaningful graphs…

Glad to hear you're making some progress
. Regardless of peak power, your motor should be bulletproof, reliable and have tonnes of useable power. Those, IMO, are the important factors.
How is the little one doing? Playing with a hockey stick yet?

Paul is the man! Got turned onto him by my mechanic, Ken McCartan @ IPC when I was looking into getting my Hondata S200 system. Great guy.
Glad you're breaking the 200WHP mark! That thing is going to be a monster at Expo. Have fun, Doug.

Thanks. Right now I have zero concerns about how much power my setup is making. It pulls hard and smooth. Compression is great (280 on all 4 cylinders, 180 with the old engine), it doesn't smoke or appear to burn any oil. I don’t have any leaks and appear to have a decent base tune.
When I get it on a calibrated Dyno I will have something to measure from.
William is doing great! He is growing very rapidly and keeping his parents busy. His sister is adjusting very well to our addition, but thinks he should go back to the doctor from time to time...

What's up with that.

I know that vid still has to be hosted somewhere. It's the canadians going at is on track @ X6

good job, the only thing i don't like paul is he won't let us see what he is doing when car on dyno.
seems like it's time for you to change to a better header and you will for sure break 210whp and 1 more thing, check the ferrera valve spring every year. I got a set broke in one seaon like 5 track days + 3 months daily drive

I'll be checking everything often... This is not an OE build and I don't expect OE longevity. Do you remember which of the Ferrea springs you used? They offer many for the B series.
The Spoon header will be the next item on the list to upgrade. If I hit 210 with it I'm sure a few people here will be surprised.
Paul is cool...
