Default Huge Predicament

i have an EJ8 .. and im just wondering what you tuners prefer .. please just give me your opinion .. but i dont know if i want to build my d16y8 or swap a gsr in, i know a swap is the easy way out, but what do you prefer, if i would keep the sohc, i would end up with a turbo setup...

Boost it... think of it this way. Would you rather spend 3-4k on a motor +install and only have 180hp from a GSR or spend about 2k at most and boost your D? Keep in mind for around 2k (piece together a kit) you could easily put down 250whp. On turbod16.com they are selling Greddy kits minus the I/C for 1500, even if you bought that +install/tune and an I/C you would still be under the total cost of a GSR.

No problem... i have an EJ1 and I had a B18c in my car about 4-5 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but for what I wanted out of the car I wish I would have just boosted it with a Greddy kit (street legal for CA) and saved myself a couple grand. Now I'm to the point where I can't decide whether to fix and boost my car or just sell it and buy a new one. *shrugs* Glad I could help.

I gutted the console, and shifter column due to thieves and the radio is taken out, once again to thieves. It has minor front end damage, nothing a new rad support and a used front end for 500 wont fix. Other than that the body has 155k on it and the motor/tranny about 90k(d16z6 used) - 75k(99ex tranny). It has H/I/E and some skunk2 c/o sleaves and kyb agx. Never really thought about how much to sell it for or how much i could get for it.

If it were me i would just use yahoo up the ***. I would find out engine and transmission codes for all 92-00 Civic coupes and then take those tranny codes and plug them in (yahoo) and see what had the best gearing. I hear the Ex/Si 92-95 tranny is good

lol...96-00 ex's are the only civics to come with a d16y8. so unless it's been swapped you should have it already....

basically the only diff b/w a d16z6(92-95 ex/si) tranny and a d16y8 (99-00ex) tranny is the shift forks. the y8 has steel as opposed to aluminum shift forks, and is stronger.
Both have the same gearing and are the shorter geared stock hydro d series trans...pm "mista bone" if you want a custom d series trans

mods here will probably bitch, but if you're cheap and you like doing things yourself then go to http://www.homemadeturbo.com

The guys there will flame your ***** off, but don't ask stupid questions, post ****, and you'll survive. Just do a lot of reading and research before you go asking stupid ****. But honsetly I think that site has a ton of stuff.

just sign yourself up on some local forums if you can. that way the local guys can get you the cheapest places for parts and local help is good help. dealing in person is quicker and easier than online. not all the time the most knowledgeable, but hands on help is good

^^ Good advice... if you aren't in too much of a rush to boost your DD, you can easily save yourself a lot of money by cruising the sites and posting some good topic questions. Full kits are nice, but you do pay the price for them

Oh god, a swap vs. turbo thread.

it's six of one, half dozen of another.

Do what you can afford/appeals to your taste.

Do you're own research.

everything is correct untill you said that d16y8(99-00 part) d16y8 = ex's 96-00.
