Question about S2000 thefts
Just a couple of months ago, my friend's 2000 Type-R was stolen. And as I've been reading the Type-R forum on this board, I can't believe how common it seems for Type-R's to be stolen. Meanwhile, I have been putting some serious consideration into purchasing an S2000, and was wondering if theft was just as ordinary among these cars... Especially taking into account for the convertible top. Thanks in advance.

If you have full coverage insurance does it really matter? i mean thats why you pay for insurance.
I look at it like this, if someone really wants your car there gonna get it. i wouldent choose not to buy a car cause it has a high rate of theft.
BTW- my friend is selling his 2001 Spa yellow s2000..

You'll never get what your car is worth, so you're almost always going to lose money if your car is stolen (esp. if it isn't stock, since they don't cover most of that stuff).
The S2000 is rated the 2nd easiest car to steal in the UK. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If someone wants your car bad enough, they will get it. They got my R. Just make sure you buy insurance and GAP. You could also get theftcode replacement, which will replace your vehicle if not recovered with a brand new at the same loan balance.

Correct, but the immobilizer is also easily defeatable. There is no car that cannot be stolen (I may be wong, but this generalization works for this scenario). Might as well drive whatever you want, get Ins. and GAP, and if they get your car just curse a lot and pick up a new one.
Dont see many S2000's in the shop for theft recovery. For two reasons. Not many are stolen,a dn if they are none are recovered. I have mine insured for the price of the car and full retail on parts and labor for the stuff I installed. ( Stereo, wheels, suspension etc.) If it gets stolen God forbid, I get a check for $45,000.
It gives me piece of mind when I have to leave it in a parking lot for two hours when I goto the movies. I only pray that if it gets jacked, it never shows up on my doorstep again. Dont get me wrong either, if I catch the bastards in the act, they will be eating through a straw for a long time.

This is how it occurs to me:
Rarely does someone steal a car just to drive around as their own personal car. That's way too risky. Cars are usually stolen for parts (or if the theif has commited another crime and needs a getaway car, in which case they wouldn't be too picky). Now, since there really aren't that many S2000's out there, compared to Integras and Civics, the demand for spare OEM parts just isn't the same. If Honda ever came out with a RWD economy car using the same engine layout as the S2000, then I could see the possibility of S2000 theft rate increasing. But until then, it's probably not going to be much of an issue.

FULLTHROTTLE: so how much more is insurance charging you for the extra coverage??
Insurance SHOULD be covering anything bolted on to the car. Wings, wheels, motor , tranny, anything physically and readily attached to the car, hence your stereo is stolen, insurance covers it, but your cds wont be... Thats a homeowners claim.
I had 1 ITR stolen and 2nd almost stolen twice. I was sick of it...hence the s2k...no problems and until the f20c is easily swappable into a civic/integra they're pretty safe.
just worry about the antenna...

I forgot where I saw this but the S2000 motor is being used in rwd Toyotas ie: corolla and celicas, so be careful please. Would hate to see the S2000 become next on the list to the ITR

Uh, he means the old skool Celicas and Corollas like the Levins/AE86, etc.
They put almost any motor in those cars, like 3SGEs and 13Bs. I'd imagine a K20c would be a nice setup in those lightweight little shells...

Aight. My bad.
What bout the rims of a S2K? I am not sure of the offset...but do they bolt on to other supsension with five lug nuts (i.e. ITR, PRELUDE). It they do fit(again I do not know if they do), are a larger majority of S2000 rims stolen as opposed to the entire car???
The offsets on the S2000 are pretty far to the positive side. In addition, the front and rear wheels are different widths and offsets. Seen many Preludes or ITR's with NSX wheels on them? Didn't think so. The NSX wheels will fit better than the S2000 ones, but neither fit in the first place.
Not a huge market for stealing the Wheels off an S2000 or any of the other parts for that matter.
The one exception are the $15 antennae. Screwballs swipe them for their Jetta's, Celica's, etc.

I wouldn't worry about someone stealing S2000's for a while
its way to hard to transplant this engine into a civic
so its pretty safe
my younger brother was getting crazy quotes for inssurance on a typeR, he is only 21 and they wanted $5000 CDN for inssurance! He is down to $3200 for a WRX. I am only paying $1900 on my S2000 (but i am 29)
