Miss Firing.....badly'
set-up
i/h/e, hondata s200, aem fpr, s2s1 cams, 6 bolt cam gears
msd ignition/cap/rotor/coil/wires...tried ngk irridums, plain ngk's and rm spark plugs
So about two weeks ago i started to notice my car was falling on its face around 8k rpms and was making a slight popping noise, now i only drive the car a few times a week if that so i didnt think much of it at the time, was thinking maybe just some bad gas. But the issue has become worse.
Anytime the car is taken around 7.5k-8k rpms it feels like its hitting a rev limiter and pops like a miss-fire, car dosnt throw a cell but it studders and stammers up the rpm range. Now ive already changed my plugs to some fresh ngk irridiums and ive also tried some fresh rocket motorsports plugs as well.
I pulled off the distributer cap and noticed my first problem, the screw that holds the rotor in place had backed itself out completely, so i tightened it back on and went for a test drive...problem was still there. So then i pulled everything off again and noticed there was carbon/black build-up on all four points of the dist cap and rotor so i sanded them lightly to remove the build-up, re-installed and drove it...problem still there. Next i removed the plug from the blaster coil and noticed there was a bit of surface rust on the connection area of the blaster coil and gunk, cleaned it off real good, sanded slightly, looks brand new again....tested and problem is still there
This mourning it was very cold outside and the problem was alot worse, as soon as it started it was miss firing and bearly holding idle, it miss fired at any rpm above 2k. Before today it was only an issue in the higher rpm range but with the weather being cold it really ran like ****.
Now ive been told by RM to run a .35 gap on there plugs, i was then told by MSD that my problem is my spark plugs, they insisted i need to run regular cheap, plain-jane ngk plugs because of the msd system and how it works, and also to gap them at .45, i did what they suggested and the problem is still there and seems a bit worse then before.'
I also changed fuel filters just in case it was fuel related but it seems to me its obviously ignition related. I was thinking of buying some new spark plug wires later and seeing if that dosnt fix it...if it dosnt i can just return them, and i can do the same with a new rotor....cap how-ever id have to order'. All current msd components are less then 5 months old and have around 2k miles on them.....car is hardly ever driven.
what do you think?

eh, tried old spark plug wires...no help
cleaned up all connections, made a new ground going straight to the battery and still an issue'
ordered a new cap and rotor...even though my current ones are only 5 or so months old...its my last resort besides sending out the msd box to msd...but then id be down without a car for a couple weeks waiting on them'....
any other suggestions'?
im gonna take apart the msd box tomarrow and just check and make sure everything looks alright inside while i wait for my new cap/rotor to show up on saturday'
