Bad gas mileage in my HX?
Ok i have a totaly clean great running 2000 hx it's only got 71,000 miles and i've kept up with everything. The only mods i have are kyb shocks, skunk2 coilovers lowered 1.5" i have a passwordjdm intake and thats it. But i still only get 240 miles tank and thats with me driving on the high way alot. When i just drive it around town i only get 200-210 and it's not like i drive it crazy fast or redline it everywhere.
wtf i thought i was supose to get like 400 at least.
Any ideas?

I know alot of people having saying stuff like this, and I kind of noticed it too. I wonder if they're changing the gas somehow ( more ethonal(sp?) in the mix ). Maybe we all need tune ups?
i usally just go the speed limit which is 60 i'd say my rpm's are between 3.5- 4 or maybe a lil more in 5th gear of course. since i've been getting bad gas milege i have started just coasting alot which has saved alot of gas but still it's not good
I bought the car about 3 or 4 months ago and they lady who had it said she got 30 in town and almost 40 on the high way. I'm gettin ****** 20 in town and like 25 on the high way. I got the hx for the gas mileage i could of gotten an si like i wanted and had the same thing i mean wtf

Improper alignment can radically effect mileage. So can a clogged air filter, stuck injector, clogged catalytic, or a plethora of other things. Heck, even tire compound effects mileage (I lost 3 or 4 mpg using Azenis compared to the stock Michelins for example).
Driving style also makes a significant difference in mileage. A few girlfriends ago, I purchased a 1988 Civic (auto tranny) for her to use. She constantly complained about it only getting 25 mpg, so I drove it for a few weeks. I averaged 32 mpg, 98% city, and I drive with the driver's window down (more wind resistance).
That said, my 00 GSR seems to average 22 mpg city for me, and I keep it under 3,200 rpm 90% of the time. If my commute was longer than the 4.5 miles it currently is, I might take the time to try and find a way to improve it. Then again, I've also managed 30+ mpg out of it with nearly all freeway driving.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought the HX tranny was just stupid long, but yet 3500 rpm at 60?

For starters, unless you run the tank dry and push the car to the pump every time, you can quit refering to your fuel economy in "per tank" terms. It's miles per gallon. Calculate it that way first, then repost. The fuel guage is way too innacurate to rely on for calculating mpg. Once we know your true mpg it will be easier to determine if there is actually a problem and make suggestions for corrective actions.
Ok so his car getting that shitty amount of miles per TANK doesnt tell you enough he has a problem? I'm in the same boat there. And YES we do have a low gas mileage problem. I too get the same LOW MILES PER TANK. Highest I have ever topped out was 278, and thats WITH my car stalling out due to no gas and granny driving...(Was told I could kill my fuel pump that way oops) so I MYSELF have run the tank to the very end. I have met a guy with a 94 civic with 390,000 miles on it, and gets about 400 miles per tank yet my car at the time had 76,000 miles on it and get crappy mileage. What's wrong!?! I've replaced just about everything and I know for a fact that my car runs rich like a mother but never figured out why. Oxygen sensor wasnt the problem. I was told by someone that maybe my fuel pressure regulator could be bad? Can a bad Fuel pressure regulator cause the car to run rich? I just now converted to stick shift and it hasnt jumped up at all really but I know it should at least be a lil higher now because I idled alot in this tank and I think I might be shifting too early (2,200 rpm) or is that an OK rpm to shift at?

Yes I dont have a shift boot! But I will have one tomorow since I get paid tomorow.

At the risk of repeating myself.... IT"S MILES PER GALLON.
That is the only way to get an acurate measure. (OK, you did run dry once, but that's a poor way to measure the fuel mileage). If you aren't willing to work with me on this problem, I'm not going to waste any more of my time.
FPR might contribute to the running rich problem, but more likely it's something like a faulty thermostat, TW sensor, timing, or something else along those lines.

Because a "tank of gas" can (in my Integra for example) be anywhere from 9.5 gallons to 11.8 gallons, yet all will read E on the gauge before filling. 220 miles on 9.5 gallons is 23.2 mpg, but 220 miles on 11.8 is 18.6 mpg, and is significantly different. Additionally, crud buildup in the tank can lower the amount of useable gas in there, as well as pickup placement (might vary between years) or how much gas is left when the car starts to starve (my 00 GSR starts starving under 1/4 tank on hard right hand turns, my friend's 95 GSR can run nearly dry without issue).
Because of all of that, miles per tank is a completely useless form of measurement. We standardize to miles per gallon for a reason, its a simple reference that any tank size can be converted into. We could also decide to use liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, as some countries do. It doesn't matter, as long as we all use the same standard for comparative purposes.

I agree... are you sure your RPM's are doing 3500 at 60? Im guessing you should barely be doing 2900-3000rpms

well i wasn't totally sure that my rpm's were at 3500 at 60 mph so i just drove around the block and in 4th gear i'm at about 3000 rpm and in 5th gear i'm at about 2300 rpm. Also someone was saying that if my alinment was off it could effect it alot. Well i have skunk2 coilovers and when i re adjusited them about a month ago i noticed the left rear is a lil higher then the rest could that have anything to do with it. I've been lazy and not re adjusited them so they're all perfectaly the right height but does that matter for gas millage.
