Default "Mugen Style" Lip

Okay so I purchased what was supposed to be a 96~97 Mugen style lip from...yes...EGAY. Aside from it arriving late, I opened the box to discover that I've received a 90~93 lip. There is a sticker on the packaging that says "93H." To make sure that this is indeed a 90~93 lip, I placed it under my friend's 92 Accord's bumper, and it lines up snugly.

For the moment I've emailed the seller asking for an exchange, and if not, then a refund. But I have been wondering, the lip is not the usual ABS material; it's the extremely flexible poly-urethane. Do you think that with some bending the lip WILL fit on my 97? I sort of tried it out, and I think it might work. For now I don't want to actually drill holes and try to install it on the car as it might still be returnable.

Has anyone ever tried this? Replies appreciated!

be patient and wait and see if the seller will send you the right lip. if not then bust out and drill and go at it! if it fails then sell your friend the lip

Well what do you know? The lip is in fact a 96~97! It was all my bad.

So I took the lip out this morning (under the sun) to snap a pic of to prove to the seller that the lip is a 90~93, but then I noticed that the lip expanded in length. I was like wtf? So I took it back in and yes, the packaging box is smaller than the lip. In other words, the square looking poly-urethane lip was condensed in the box and I didn't let it have enough time to get back into shape. And then I noticed the extra sticker on the plastic bag that reads "Accord 97 (M) front lip" in Chinese.

So yeah, I emailed the seller back saying my bad and hopefully will have my fugly Type-R style lip replaced this weekend.

Actually plenty of people on the Accord Forum have the Mugen style lip, simply because there aren't many lips available for the CD chassis, but here is a pic of an ABS Mugen style lip:

And here is a pic of the fugly Type-R style lip that I currently have (the sides flare out really badly):

I would prefer an Azect lip, but those are imported from Japan and are $$$.

The easiest place to find these things is eBay. To date I have owned three Mugen style lips and one Type-R style lip, of which one of those Mugens is poly-urethane and will be substituting the current Type-R style lip. Most of these lips are made out of ABS, which is fairly sturdy, but count on them breaking if the proper impact is applied. In other words, poly-urethane should hold up better since it is more flexible.

Let's see...my latest lip was bought for $77.00, and that includes shipping. Ebay is the first place to find these lips as other sites usually mark up the prices. My first Mugen style lip was the cheapest. I actually did a pickup in City of Industry (CA) from Vertex Racing and the whole thing only cost me about $35.00, but I was lucky. I don't think Vertex Racing sells the Accord applications anymore though.

Oh yeah, I bought the latest lip from 4caroption, an eBay seller.

</TD></TR></TABLE> Are those someones boxers in your front bumper? lol. looks good tho. the lip that is. i had the same problem from ebay. Ordered a lip from 4CarOption.com and the one they sent me wasnt even close to fitting, should of probably sent it back, but i am very creative so i tried to cut a lil here cut a lil there and by the time i was done ended up ordering a cf lip.

Thanks...I have heard the same about polyurethane lips taking more abuse and that's the type that I want...just wasn't sure because most sellers on egay don't tell you what they are made of, nice car btw.

IMO type R lips look like the stock 94-95 lip except bigger and lower. mugen lips look way better IMO

I concur. Mugen style lips are the way to go. I only had the Type-R style lip as a replacement after someone drove my car and smashed the previous Mugen style one over a curb .

I did do some research sometime ago for the uber rare Seibon carbon fiber lips (not the hella fat one, but the mini-Mugen looking one, you know?), but couldn't find any. I then came to the conclusion that at any rate, front lips are made to take beatings, and eventually they will need to be replaced along the way, so why pay for a $$$ carbon fiber lip? These "____ Style" lips might be ricer or too cheap to some, but personally, rocking these lips lets me sleep better knowing that if I fwack up the lip, it can still be replaced without burning too large of a hole in my wallet .

I just got the polyurethane Mugen style lip installed today. Out with the Type-R style, in with the Mugen style! The flexibility is amazing. No more ABS crap for me! I can't wait until the polyurethane finally breaks ! Pics up tomorrow!

Here are the pics that I promised a few days ago . So this is the new polyurethane Mugen style lip which I mistook for a 90-93 mixup. The lip went back into shape under the sun.
