Problems with Sound System 93 EG hatch, Sounds Distorted coming through speakers after full paint jo
Well guys, i had to take out all the wiring harness out of the car when it got painted, and i suspect some where in the harness there is some stripped wire or something, as the speakers sound like **** after re assembling my car. The guys who painted it must of done something. Didnt inspect it much when i relaid the harness, but now comes payback time.
I got some questions, where exactly is the wire that runs through this harness coming from? Is coming directly from the harness that attaches to the head unit, meainng wires go from the door panels and the back 2 speaker outlets to the wire harness? And if so does someone have a diagram of this? Is there any tips on testing say with a miltimeter on how to test where the break in the line is or where theres some exposed wire? I also hear it could be a bad ground?
Has this ever happened to anyone? Kinda sucks.

just how could the person painting your car f up the sound system if you are the on that removed it all. I think its time for you to stop pointing fingers and find out what you have f*#$d up. first thing I would do is hook up each speaker out of the car and listen to them you could have blown speakers. That includes checking them with an ohm meter should be around 2 to 4 ohms. DO NOT check them on your home stereo most can not drive a 4 ohm load. Then take your ohm meter and check each speaker wire for shorts to ground (with the head unplugged). Then take the head unit to a repair shop and pay to have it bench tested.
Well calm down buddy, to understand what im talking about i would ahve to go into more detail, but im sure this picture might help you out. I gave the car stripped out and the harnnesses in nice and kosher format in order so none of the stuff would get damaged, minus the front harness crap like in the door, and when it was returned it came back like this! Granted its a PITA to paint, but i have a feeling with how the car sat around for a while like this chillin in like 100degree weather might have fried something.

Now to your suggestion, when talking about OHM, would that be a certain level which can be detected with your run of the mill radio shack multimeter?
Also how do i check for shorts to ground? What should the reading be like? Sorry a newb when it comes to electric crap! Got a K swap done but got no idea how to fix this!

why the f*ck did you leave the speakers plugged in and just chillin. they could have gotten wet and dried with the cones wrinkled, or the sun baked em and warped em. they look oem and if thats the case their due to be replaced anyway. try different speakers and let us know what happens.
No guys, those speakers are not the ones being used! LOL Those were cracked for and disposed of after the paint job!
I have new ones, and it still sounds like ****. Also i left those speakers in because i knew they were **** anyways lol and let my buddy throw them away.
Also this pic is 2 and some change years old. Have had this car painted for a while, just havent done much about the speakers.

if your still have issues, i would re-wire it to your HU or too the plug with some 18 or 16 gauge. If your HU is getting power, and your speakers are good, then it should be fine.

hahaha if i can refrain from laughing at the pic .... "certainly no offense" Sounds like either a whire is pinched and is slightly grounding our, or wires are crossed..... you can do a couple things ..... like was mentioned before, rewire straight from harness, or find the short/grounding. See my speakers are distorted because the front ones have NO CONES . lol 2 weeks Infinity kappa's oe boston acoustics pro.... Good luck man
Ok guys, when rewiring the speakers and running line back to them which are the lines from the harness i need to cut into? Does anyone ahve a diagram? Or can look through there helms to tell me which page? As i have an online helms, but that crap is a bitch to find things on!

And since you probably dont know what 'phase' measns....make sure that the positive is on the positive terminal, and the ground is on the ground terminal, and that all speakers are moving the same way.
However, IMO if you dont have a basic understanding of electricity and how to test for basic things, like shorts and resistance, I would just give it to someone who knows what they are doing.

Hehe, i dont quit easily. Im going to learn and fix this, Plus whats so much fun if you quit?
Yea i understand that the ground should go to the ground and power to power, is that what 'phase' means?
This is a learning experience, no need for sour grapes. You seem not open to expressing your information you may have, and just telling me to go find someone else to do it for me isnt any help for us, or anyone searching and finding this thread later on, So please bro pass on the info and dont be a dick about it.

bmw urban green?? I really really want to paint a car that color.. its definately my favorite color out there. As for your speakers... def check the polarity- out of phase would sound liek very low bass responce to the music. Check grounds as well. Lastly just rewire it with some new 16 gauge wire. While you have the dash out it would take you literally 10 minutes. Hell if I were you Id run 3 sets of RCA's and everything to get it set for a 4 channel amp instal plus sub lol
Yea man its a nice color, thinking of now just running fresh lines from the head unit back now that i know where to find the diagram and which wires they are.

Lemme know what u think of my baby.
