my 97 civic ex coupe DRIVERS SIDE sun visor doesn't work correctly...

This is the problem.. The previous owner put 2 sticky black velco straps to try and hold up the sun visor to the position it's supposed to stay in as soon as you push it up to the ceiling... They were failing to work so I ripped them off and used "goof off" to clean up the gluey crap on them.. I took the sun visor off from the driver's side (the one that's having issues)..
I noticed that there is a lot less resistance than with the passenger side sun visor when moving it from one side to the other side (180 degree rotation). I had unbolted both of the sun visors and noticed that I can't access inside the visor because of the cloth stitching, so i can't really see if a spring is worn out or what..
Should I just buy a new one or is there a better way to fix this?
