Looks good, that thing is going on a stock b16 right??

More importantly, how does aluminum sound, esp w/o a resonator, I would think it would be a tinny sound bc its aluminum and not steel.

Why have a 4" exhaust with only a 3" DP?

That was not our decision. It was the owner of the car who wanted the flare from 3" to 4". We have made several of these exhausts (stainless dp) and there have not been melting issues what so ever. As far as the sound of the exhaust, if you click on my 4" exhaust video link in my signature you can hear it for yourself!

Looks great, but I bet when the guy puts the car on a dyno, he'll have less horsepower than if he went to a tuned exhaust. What ever the customer wants, right.

What do you mean by "tuned"? And why do you say that?

im assuming you mean like a brand name exhaust like thermal when you say tuned exhaust? and i think your sadly mistaken. I highly doubt that the car will lose any horsepower by upgrading to a 4inch exhaust eventhough he has a 3inch downpipe. the exhaust is proven to make power. the only downfall is spool time. and how would you even make a statement like that without even knowing the setup? because lets be honest here setup makes all the difference.

I was thinking that he meant tuned length exhaust, but even then, that doesnt really apply to turbo cars.

so what DO you mean by "tuned exhaust"?

You would be absolutely amazed on how much engineering goes into designing an exhaust system. Type of material, coefficient of friction (yes there is friction with air moving across metals, flow rates, length, keeping your engine temp at a specific degress to produce the most HP. I guy used to go to school with, went to a very high end vocational school and is now working for Dynomax. A company that designs aftermarket exhaust systems for performance cars.

The only problem with those big companies is that they don't make 4" diameter exhausts. Not only that but none of those companies offer an exhaust system made out of aluminum. Now as far as air friction goes, i believe that it isnt a problem with a 4" diameter exhaust. I think that whatever makes my 4" aluminum exhaust "untuned" would not make a difference in horsepower to switch to a "tuned" exhaust.

cough:bullshit:cough Seriously, Dynomax is a company that just pumps out exhaust for every make/model you can think of and they're not tuning anything. Whatever bends they need to make an exhaust fit, well that's the bends that it's getting. Bigger is better on a turbo exhaust and that's all there is to it. The fact that the exhaust is aluminum and 4" is a win/win because you can't get too much bigger on a stock passenger vehicle and the weight benefit of the aluminum.

Just about every big name exhaust company doesn't do any R&D on set of headers, let alone a full exhaust. If you think so they're just bullshitting you. "Tuned" & "equal length" are just marketing terms for the majority of the industry. Sure there are companies like Burn's and SMSP that actually put time into R&D but they are few and far between. Dynomax is not one of those companies.

I suppose there is only one way to find out. Put the car on a dyno with different sizes of exhaust systems and see.

u have to be kidding.....r u saying that this 4 inch aluminum exhaust will make less power then lets say a 3 inch thermal exhaust because it was made by a big company? thats what it sounds like u r trying to say..

Dude, Motec system exhausts are fully tuneable....dont you know
I cut my bumper the same way, looks real nice that way. I'm not really feeling how people do the turn-down's, but thats just me.
