Midbass Driver
Im looking to do a pretty large project to my car in a few weeks, one part of which will include upgrading the midbass drivers (front door speakers, and rear 6X9's) (guess it might help to add this is going in a 2000 accord coupe ex)
My first question is, can i upgrade just the midbass driver with just a midbass driver, and not a two way or three way speaker. and if so, what would i search for on the internet? and what brands do you sugest?
secondly, if i can just upgrade those speakers, will i still be able to use the stock crossovers? (i have tweeters in my dash by the windsheild)
im also interested in a component set as long as i dont have to drill new holes for my tweeters (my car has stock tweeters in the dash)
sorry if this sounds too specific, but all i could come up with were coaxil sets. TIA

would these complement it nicely? http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Alpine...wItem
do you see these as being a quailty product?

Alpine makes a very good product, however, unless you are getting it from an authorized Alpine dealer, there are no guaranties it's even an Alpine product.
The Alpine speakers are pretty good and if installed properly will sound pretty good, the tweeter is small enough so mounting it in the stock location should not be a problem, however like many other brands now, the mid, ["midbass"] is an over-sized 6.5", and is not a direct fit into the stock speaker housing, if your not up to some custom work you will need to find a standard 6.5" set, [they use a 5" mounting hole diameter just like the stock Honda 6.5"] you can find them at Pioneer, Infinity, Eclipse and some others.

What do you mean there are no guarentees its even a real alpine product?
As far as custon goes thats no problem, i was planning on making mdf brakets anyhow.
my project is sound deading my whole car, making a stealth sub enclousre in my trunk, and mouting the amps under a false floor (also in the trunk).
do you have any sugestions as far as a place to order good alpine stuff?

I mean there is no guarantees that what you are buying from a non authorized dealer is, real, refurb, recalled and sold for salvage or not stolen merchandise, and even if it is a legit, brand new product, there is no manufactures warranty on it.
Any authorized dealer is good, a local retailer, or a chain that has online buying W/local pickup or online sites, most brands will give you local dealers and authorized online dealers, IMO you should support your local retail dealer, you pay a little more, but you get so much more, service being one, if you have a problem, with a retail outlet you go back to them, probably even deal with the guy/girl who sold you the stuff, easy face to face, non authorized online dealers, good luck, it's going to cost you, time and money.

BTW what kind of amps?

I would love to support my local shops, but the one right in my town is shaddy as hell (has dirty open products everywhere in the store that i swear are stolen) <----i dont want them knowing what i have in my car as far as electronics goes for that reason. But i will most likely check out another dealer in my area where i had my alarm installed (about 30 minutes away, next closest
)
As far as amps go, im not sure as to what to run the component set, whether i need a 2ch and than just run my rear 6X9's off of my head unit, or if i should just get a 4ch amp. For my sub i have a 1600w RMS MA audio amp.
But i agree with you on supporting my local dealer, but i truley want nothing to do with the one here in town (the shady one) and the other one is pretty far out of my way usually (but willing to see what they have)

I would stick with a 2ch amp use the HU to drive the rear speakers, rear fill only, use the stock 6x9s or get a set of 6x9 mid-range/mid-bass drivers, you do not want any tweeters in the rear.
Better yet, get a better set of front components and ditch the rears compleatly or get a set of mid-bass drivers and a 4ch amp run the mid-bass in mono, [bridge 2 channels of the amp].
If you use any speakers in the rear you will have to seal the backs of them so they are not effected by the sub.

alright cool. thanks for the good info. stock 6x9's it is.
as far as a small 2 ch amp to run the components i believe about 75wrms x 2, an recomendations? i was looking online at a few, found a few hifonics ones, and some rockfords, but other than that i was pretty much out of luck.
i would like good sq w/o breaking the bank (highend like jl is fine, but nothing crazy like a $1000 amp
)

JL is good but certainly not high end. amps like audison, brax, Mcintosh would be considered high end.

I understand that there are much nicer products out there, but for my application and budget jl audio will do just fine. even tho they do not make an amp to fit my needs.
can someone point me in the direction of a nice 2 ch amp that runs between 75 and 100 watts rms per channel. im not finding much variety.

i mean im not really on a budget, but i just dont want a $1000 amp, but i want something that is going to have good SQ. So you say MTX has good SQ? or just makes the power for a decent price? because from my understanding driving subs are differnt than driving componenets (or any other speaker that isnt a sub)
MTX makes a pretty good amp for the price... http://www.mtx.com/index2.cfm
