Rattling and squeeking problem ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Ok I have a 2000 EX coupe (auto if that makes any difference) . Ok when my car is idling in the driveway or just in park , and the cooling fan or the AC is on there is a squeeking and rattling noise . Does this have anything to do with exhaust heat shields or anything . I am assuming that this is caused by the low idle from either the cooling fan or condensor fan being on ((drain on system causing the motor to strain alittle*normal*)) . Anyone else have this problem or noticed it on other civics . Ever heard of a way of correcting it ? ?
Where is the noise coming from? If it squeeks when you turn on the AC, you may need to adjust tighten your AC condenser belt. If it rattles and shakes when the cooling fan comes on, you may have a broken or bent fan blade.
Could be you cat converter heatshield. If you rev your engine when in neutral, can you duplicate the rattle at a acertain RPM? If so it's probably a heatshield, a very common problem. Just remove it, you don't need it. You can usually just get some lockjaw pliers/vice grips and rip them off. Hope that helps.
Ok I located the source of the squeeking rattling noise , its coming from the flange(not sure if thats the name of it) that connects my Headers to my Cat . Ok now what . I know if I put anything in there in the form or a lubricant its only gonna burn off with the heat generated there . I tried to tighten the bolts down that connect the header to the cat but they are already tight .Any suggestions?
