Taking apart the top end??? can i do it without messing it up?
I blew my engine up (b18c1) last spring, and i just recently acquired all the parts necessary to rebuild another engine. Most of the valvetrain that i will be using for the new engine is still on the blown block ( camshafts, valves, valvesprings).
my question is this: since all of the machine shops around where i live are backed up, should i attempt to piece out the top end so that i can get the engine built quicker or is it too complicated of a job to do myself??? i know how engines work and everythign, but i am by no means a wiz when it comes to this stuff.
Is it worth trying to piece out the valvetrain so that the engine building process is accelerated or is it too risky???
i need some input pretty badly.............. thanks in advance

You would probably need a machine shop in the first place because I'm sure the cylinder walls or the head were damaged when it blew. What exactly happend, other than you blew it?
im pretty sure it got fcked up in the crankshaft..... the crankshaft basically ripped apart somehow thats what the machine shop said that i originally brought it to. is it possible to remove the entire valvetrain without taking it apart? ill keep checkin every hour or so
just pull the head off the block and take it to a shop that isnt backed up and have them remove the valves and springs from it.It will be ablot easier and you wont have to worry about it getting fucked up.Or you can read a diy thread and fingure it out and take the risk
Save the money a shop will charge you and buy the tools to do it yourself.
Removing valvetrain really isn't that hard. You have to remove the cams already just to take the head off the block anyways.
Thinks to buy.
Valve spring compressor - those cheapy's at autozone won't work for a b-series head well. There is one that stretches across the head and has a slide bar. Very nice.
Torque wrench - Mine was 150.00 from Tool guy. Brand is SK I like it gonna get an inch pounds one that is about 110.00 also, same brand.
That is about it required for minor head tools.
You could get a nice hex key set. This will aid in removing the rocker arm bolts on the sides of the head if you want to remove rockers and LMA's.
I use a 10 mm deep socket to reinstall valve seals and a rubber hammer/dead blow.
Good luck and DIY.
