i was on the interstate on my way back to school tonight and was going 80, then i looked over and saw a 06/07 4dr civic and saw that he was only going 73mph, i was like ok, i was going the same speed and my speedo seemed like it was off

ok, so first of all i have a 98-01 integra grs cluster in my 96 EK, second i have 205/40/16 tires and just got it lowered and aligned, i dont know anything else that could throw it off by 7mph, maybe mines off maybe his is off, idk, but ive gone past cops going 80, indicated by my speedo and they didnt do anything, btw, i was going with the flow of traffic too, and it was on the interstate with a sped limit of 75mph

anybody know what could be wrong beside the VSS or cluster? or is it just the different tire size?

 

you can get your gauge cluster fixed at a bunch of diff. places/shops

first, u have to understand how the speedo work. it is setup by calculated the circumference of the tire and time the revolution of it, then it becomes mile per hour. so every speedo on any car is set according to their stock tire size. if you changed the tire to different size, it would affect the speedo displaying since the speedo will not know you change the tire. so if u have done your homework right, a 205/40/16 tire is smaller/shorter than the stock195/55/15(and shorter than 205/50/15) tire, hence your speedo display speed faster than what u are actually doing.

 

yeah, i figured that, but i want to know if its could be something besides the gearing or whatever of te cluster, like the VSS going bad or just something random

 

i believe it is not malfunction of vss or gear or speedo. btw, honda speedo is + or - 3-4% error

yeah, i know how the speedo works, i just couldnt think of how to explain it, and my stock tires are 175/70/13, if you noticed its a 96 CX, silver 13" steelies with chrome Honda center caps for the stock size. and im not stupid, i checked the tire ratio before i got my tires, its only supposed to be off by like 1mph

and the error would be 8.75% if i think i calculated that right, which is much more than stock specs, and the addition of my %off from changing tires
