just getting in to all motor...
still waiting around for money to come along so i can get started with it, i've got a y7 with y8 manifolds and not much else.
i've looked through some older threads and i am thinking about a chipped P06, D16A6 pistons, cam regrind and assorted head work.
i'm set on non-vtec for this build so motor swaps are out. Just wanted to find out from some guys with more experience if these are worthwhile goals for a sporty feeling daily driver.
i apreciate your oppinions and advice.

yea, in a 96 chassis which is the heaviest of all of the civics, with the motor with the least potential, i can see you pulling your hair out and bleeding your knuckles all over a car that will do low 15s @93mph on a good day when youre done. but if it is what you wanna do its what you wanna do and there are p eopel who will help you do it.

Read his goals.
" A sporty feeling daily driver"
I don't think he is looking for a powerhouse. Even still I 100% agree with you guy's and don't see this as the best of idea's.
IMO, if a non vtec D series is what you are set on then do it. But if your looking for
some good hp for your dollar you are going to need to swap.
A b18b or b20z will cost you less than your build and probably have similar results.
Since you want nonvtec, Id really suggest you swap a b20z with a b16 or gsr tranny then add some good bolt on's and maybe a set of crower 403's. This is sure to be stonger than a mild d16 and will imo suit what your looking for perfectly.

I chose this because i have one, can't beat free with a b20. anyway, if i'm gonna do a swap i am not going to do it in this car, i would want to do it right and get the fastest thing i could. the same goes for doing a turbo D, untill i am ready to do it right and put the time and money into it then it's not worth it to me.
I plan on doing the honda thing for a long time so i am in no hurry to have a street legal race car or anything, just something better than i started with. thanks for the responses.
i think i will read that thread...

why are you opposed to a vtec head? A mild a6/z6 block build with a1 pistons, vtec head,y8 mani, p28 on chrome, z6 tranny, crower stage3... is very streetable and parts are very cheap.
word, d-series have potential. i highly suggest at least a vtec head. there was an article in honda-tuning where they compared the cost of buying a b16a swap versus building a sohc vtec. the results were building the sohc was cheaper and made more hp/tq than a stock b16a would make.

yea it was 140whp to 135whp and as soon as you put a hundred bucks into the B, the comparison comes to a screeching halt.
if i was dead set on a non vtec D, i would junkyard turbo it. the little 16G mitsu turbos are a dime a dozen. you can make 200whp with a fence post/water faucet manifold, dont even need to intercool it. one trip to a remotely virgin junkyard with some DSMs and at least one HF/CX manifold and another afternoon at a machine shop and you would be boosting and shitting all over mild B series swaps in same chassis'd cars.
sorry jsut doing the brain storming you may or not have done.
