time to un-pimp z auto - my project thread.
Well the last threaded was archived so I figured I would start a new one.
Well I picked her up today.
Saw her on craigslist.
89 civic sedan lx. 204k on the clock. 5 speed.
Needs some tlc.
Sounds like it needs a new rear rotor and a good cleaning.
Had a real bad smell when i got it home. Figured that one the battery is leaking.
After driving it on the way home I noticed the clutch needs adjusting and the speedo cable stopped working.
I got it for a good price plus I'm going to be using parts off of my 90 civic lx to build this. Once I have all the parts I need then I will be parting the 90 civic lx out due to really bad rusted rear end.
I did not feel safe in the 90 sedan or my family to be safe in it.

That is a picture of my 90 I was selling it but due to Karma and my feelings on how it will come back to haunt me I'm just going to part it out.
Here are some pictures of the car. I'll be un-pimping it first before I do anything.

yes that is a honda emblem stuck on the door. It really has holes drilled into the panel.

nice blue valve cover with white cap. Also take note of the cardboard on the homemade intake.

yep more emblems on the dash and door panel. Hopefully he only stuck it on the dash so I dont have to pull the dash. Oh well I will see tomorrow.
Right now as far as I know I'll be un-pimping the auto first. Then adjust clutch, speedo cable.
I'm looking forward to driving it due to it rode real well on the way home. This will let me quit putting miles on the rex. I'm 314k on that and counting.
Right now plans are a daddy sleeper. I'm going to do a mpfi swap on it and just enjoy it for a while.
I've got two kids so this is going to be my haul the kids around. So I want it safe but able to play with. My 90 civic was totally rusted at the rear doors so that was not safe. This one there is no rust so the possibilities are endless.
My 90 sedan donated these to the cause.

Exterior now looks like this.

I now took off the pin stripe and am going to totally buffing the car since it is rocking the original paint.
I was also thinking about putting my 88 crx si wheels on it but then I decided to change my mind on the crx wheels, right now since there is a butt load of tread on the sedan tires this is now what they look like.

Since parting out the 90 sedan, she has donated a lot to this cause and also to the parts bin at the house. I have a 60 gallon tuperware constainer filled.

While parting out the 90 I picked up a couple of things to help out the ride a little.

I also traded the shell for cash plus these below. I'll be cleaning them and then getting new tires.

That is all for now folks I've the sedan up in the air so i can get the tranny out to put in a new clutch. While that is being done I'm swapping my 90 sedan dash into the car and also changing out all the engine mounts also since they are gone.
she is now my work in progress. I'll be this week trying to get the tranny out and put the dash back in the car. I figured while the dash was out change the speedo cable since that was shot.
thanks
Richard

I think I remember seeing this before. Maybe it was on the one that went to archive.. Anyways good luck with the build, and whats your future plans for it?
That sucks about the little honda badges everywhere. O by the way what is that green on your steelies?

Yeah it went to archives I could not get it out so I started a new thread since I started working on it.
No green on the steelies.
Chrome trim ring. I caught it last night. The car has been sitting outside for a while now so it is kind of green right now due to the polen.
Future plans are drive the hell out of it.
I've been thinking about it alot actually once I get it one the road I'm going to get my other car running.
After I put the miles on the sedan I've got a lovely h22/h23 swap sitting for either my rex or the sedan so right now I'm undecided. I've also got a mini-me sitting as well.
Thanks

Well got most of the bolts out last night.
To my horror the guy who had it before me was running gear oil in the tranny.
Talk about a lovely burnt smell when I opened the drain plug.
I got the passenger axle out easily but the drivers side it well and truely stuck in. I need to really give it a good beating with the hammer to free it.
Ive been doign most of the car work when the kids are asleep so any loud banging can not go on. I guess tonight I'll give a good hit.
Apart from that I've found that the shifter bushing was in the shifter just by the grace of god.
The front engine mount was totally destroyed even held in with the wrong bolts.
I now know why the car shuddered when I down shifted. I've grown up using the clutch to slow the car down then using the brakes for the final stages. First time I tried this with this car the car started shaking like it had see a naked ugly woman.
Oh well time to get back to work and look forward to more wrenching time tonight.

Well got the tranny out.

It needs a really good cleaning. I guess while it is out I'll be simple greening the motor also.
I'm still fighting the drivers side axle. It is looking previous owner put wrong spline shaft in hole.

I've got a 20 ton press at work so once I get the assembly out I'll be taking it to work.
I'm now in for replacing the clutch.

Well time to get the simple green out and go to town.
Both drive shafts are shot. They slung grease everywhere. So might as well make the clutch out a good cleaning day for the car.

well did not get to do much last night. Wifes Birthday.
I can tell you simple green works wonders on a tranny covered with oil. It looks almost new.
I also got to tint driver side windows. I found on the bay a place selling pre-cut window tint. So far so good.

Nice man.
My best friend lives in Woodstock, GA. I love that town!
You may have seen him or his dad driving around. He drives the blue/white striped '69 Cutlass and his dad *did* drive a Canary yellow/black striped '72 Chevelle SS.
Anyway, GL on the project mang!

Well got some work done on the car while the wife was making website corrections.
I love having a kids that go to bed on time and a wife that is trying to earn money from home.
I got to do this.

I now get to take this to work to use on our 20 ton press.

also got to clean the tranny a little bit.
So I'll probably do some more cleaning then throw the clutch in it.

well got the new clutch in.
boy there was some rigging on the old on versus the new one.
also massive rigging on the dizzy o-ring. Insead of buying a new o-ring previous owner put a piece of gasket and j-b weld material inbetween the dizzy and the rocker arm that the dizzy mounts to. Now I know why everythign was soaked in oil.

Well got to do some work on here tonight.
New Oring installed. Called advanced auto, ordered a clutch set and new dizzy o-ring. to my suprise the box came in a day later.

I took out the dizzy out to my amazement this was inbetween the dizzy and the block to stop the oil leak.

I could not get the 20 ton press to push out the drivers axle so call to the honda yard and $50 later it looks like this.

I also since I was on the phone with advanced auto order a new complete valve cover gasket assy. (came with nuts, boot covers and gasket) Cant beat $20.00
Once can of brake clean and a shot of paint to clean off the blue. I did not want to do black since my whole engine bay is black. The guy painted everything under the hood black. mind you did not take anything out.
So silver it is.

Now all I have to do is put the remaining wires back on, install the dash, oil her up and I'm going driving.

Yeah this is the new toy for the wife and I. We have a jeep cherokee with a roof rack, tube bumpers and stuff so we figured that we both love driving my crx so get something like that.
Plus she said if she had to sell her lude then it had to be a 4 door honda.
So since I love me rex it was a natural choice.

Well unpimped ride came out of the garage today.
new clutch and complete transformation.

Only things I got left to do are.
Tint back window
tighten hub nut, need wifes help
install front center cap
add air to the tires.
Then i can drive it. I'm going to have all that done tomorrow so i can go and get some gas.
I've got rid of all the original persons stuff from it.
I'm going to next weekend three stage wax it. Maybe next year after taxes have a paint job put on it, unless I get a xmas bonus.
Only big issue I see so far is there a slight fluctuation with idle but that is fixable.
Not sure if I'm going to do the mpfi yet. I just really want to drive it.

Well took her for a spin with my son today.
Today I worked from home and he told me that he wanted to go out in dad's hotrod.
So we took the car for a run. Ran real well. Alot better than when I bought it.
This is how it turned out.

Still needs a bloody good waxing but I'll get round to that.
On the back glass I have a overhaulin and the shocker sticker. My wife told me you know I'm gonna drive that car also. She started laughing.

so you like homeboys answer for the oring on the dizzy.
Yeah I know I need to drop it but right now I've decided to run it for a while and save up some money.
Me being the only bread winner in the family with a stay at home mum with two kids is a little bit of a holy hell factor.
Plus I told my wife that my new years resolution is to get my mustang svo out of the garage under its own power. She has not run in 10 years. I've been restoring it when I get the extra money. This year has been any little extra I'm throwing at it.
