Ugly carpet along door panels... NO MOES :o
Isn't exactly technical, and would get sent to the last page in the appearance section in seconds by the ricers posting pictures of their JdM tyte! 4 d00rz.
Anywho; I've never liked the color of the carpet that runs along the bottom of our door panels and I could never understood why the speaker grills looked like something got spilt on them. So, I decided to do away with the ugliness and dye them black! Ran over to vatozone and grabbed 2 cans of Dupli-Color 'Vinyl & Fabric' dye. There are 2 styles of black to choose; gloss or flat black... doesn't matter which as they'll both turn out the same on carpet. Now, I would never use this **** to dye seats or dashboards, but it will work fantastic for my use.
1. Remove door panel (you should know how, right?) 4 screws in total; one on each side of the panel. 1 in pocket & the other behind the door handle.
2. I originally was going to do some masking, but realized you could take the carpeted piece and speaker grill off. Sweet.
3. Used a carpet brush to get rid of any dirt or hair that may be on the carpet and sprayed away.
4. The carpet will be a bit crunchy to the feel after applying the dye and I simply went over it again with the carpet brush once dried.
5. To make re-installation easier, take off that little triangular plastic piece that covers the bolts that hold your side-mirrors on.
I still have a little over 1/2 a can left and will be using that on the rear speaker deck carpet. The pics...

... eww.

Much better IMO.

OMG BIGG0R!!1!

Hope you like. Not sure if I want to reupholster the door inserts or just dye them as well, since they're not subject to very much abuse; such as floor mats.

You may just need to use a little more layers than I had to use, however, this stuff gets soaked up pretty well by the carpet. I'm sure it'll turn out the same.
