Is there anyway to tell if your timing belt has been replaced? I was tould that it was never replaced by the 2nd owner but it looks very good for having 89k on it. Im thinking the first owner might have had it replaced, im not sure why with that low of miles but im not sure. Also how much slack should be in the belt when you lift up between the cam gears? By the way this is on a b16.
No, you can't tell the condition of the belt just by looking at it. If your car has 89,000 and you're unsure about the belt, just replace it.

I plan on doing it this summer
My manual says for the b16a2 to replace it by 105k but im going to be on the safe side and do it soon. How long do you think it will take to do? I have a mechanic friend that can help me. Also how much slack is there suppose to be in the belt when you lift it up between the cam gears?

It's not hard, make sure to replace things like waterpump and tensioner since you are in there. Takes about 3-4 hours.

As I stated, a belt can look new and still need to be replaced. You can't judge whether or not a timing belt needs changing by looking at it.
