Default stripped head bolt, need help

ok like the title says. yesterday afternoon i began puttin together my ls vtec, i bought a B18B1 from a guy on craigslist and asked him that if anything is wrong with the block to lmk right then n there so i could address the problem before i started work on it, even after i gave him the money and had the motor in my car ready to leave. he said not its in perfect condition. anyways when i took it apart everything was great almost no signs of wear or anythin on any of the bearings, so i was thinkin koo he did tell the truth, but i spoke too soon. after everythin was put together i started to bolt down the head and come to find out there is 1 stripped head bolt, or much rather where the bolt connects to one the block. freakin liar im thinkin to my self. well my question is this, is it possible for a machine shop to fix this problem without me having to remove the head? because this would save me so much time and money. or do i have to take it apart. if ur local to norther cali (sac area) wat are some good machine shops around here. thanks

Head has to come back off, no way around it. Your gonna have to tap that hole with the head off and get a new bolt

you go and buy a heli coil kit with the size you need, drill out the old threads push the spring into the hole and viola new threads....the direction will come with the kit.

if they are good enough for 40 million dollar aircraft they will work on your car

Same thing happened to a dude at my work with his b16. He helicoiled it. Three years later it's still fine.

My friend is running a b18a ls/vtec right now with some OS P30's in it, b16 head. Has 2 helicoils in the block for the head bolts. Holds up fine.

Ace/True Value probably Menards/Home Depot/Lowes

I've only seen em at my local hardware stores, but I've never looked at the big guys, I'd assume they have em as well, just wouldn't know where to look.

Haha, I know exactly what you're talking about. If you absolutely need it, its available in the small metric tap set from Craftsman, otherwise just look for it online and wait for shipping.

We needed the same tap for my friends crank. We went everywhere. I could not even find it in a kit. So i just but the tap from a big tool supplier. Cant think of the name right now. But i pick it up for $9.
