underdrive pulley
hey my stock crank pully bolt broke and i bought a new unorthodoxed underdrive pulley. i was wondering if these things make any difference with power. i feel a difference but i dont know if its jus my imagionation. does anyone know if these things make a diference? thanks for the help
its your imagination.
however less rotating mass is a good thing for acceleration. nothing you will notice though. im about to buy one also, the stock one weights too much, in combination with a light flywheel

the aftermarket pulley is too problematic and less reliable for crappy gains. i would not go for it. stick with oem, or something that has a balanced pulley/rotating lower block crank mass.
I've been runnin an Unorthodox C.P. since '99, no problems. True that you barely notice anything big, so don't call out any Porches' or anything. Just less resistance on rolling mass= slightly quicker acceleration, slightly.

i am going to have to throw somthing in here after reading posts alittle better. i broke a oil pump gear but had not even thought about that pully causeing it. thanks for opening my eyes mine is taking a hike

omg not one of these threads again.
get a UR if you want, but know the "risks". i have a set on my car, but i am not affraid to work on my car either.
to add to this thread, i have a 4th gen with a weird idle problem. i do notice when my idles dips that my lights will dim. although i assume that will be with any pulley kit.

You have had them for 5 years with no problems. Why are you going to go through the hassle to remove them now.

they have been eating up belts real fast it is starting to suck. it didnt bother me at first but getting expensive.

underdrive pulleys are jokes, if your dumb enough to waste your money on something like that you deserve to get owned. thats just a ricers way of trying to be fast and shine up the motor when they are listing their "mods" on onlineshowoff. Spend that 150+ dollars on something that actually makes ur car faster.

well if you got it for 30 you might want to becareful it doesnt crack on you, those "bargain" load bearing parts usually are made from lower grade materials. dont be surprised if your ac/powersteering/alternator go out on you one day. OEM ftw
yea they weight a little bit more, but peace of mind is worth an extra 3 lbs.

Well, this seems strange.
Underdrive pullys are DYNO PROVEN. Its also common sense. okay guys lets think about this for a minute. (thinking small gains.)
Your P.S. can take up to 10 HP to run.
Your Alternator takes HP to run.
This is called parasitic loss , you have to use power to make power.
Now, If you spin these at a slower rate as the engine spins. (Under driving)
you WILL MAKE MORE POWER
there is no question about it.
we will go over the balance part of it later, as this is minor.

No, ricers don't understand how engines work.
Less parasitic loss = more power, regardless of how much it actually is.

they make a diff. a small one but they do. every + hp helps.

stick w/ the oem pulley (harmonic damper).</TD></TR></TABLE>
That little chunk of rubber is no harmonic damper. It just balances the pulley, which is a cast piece. A billet pulley is less likely to be out of balance, unless it's made from very cheap material. The fluid dampr is a true harmonic balance for our engines, OEM is just balanced steel, UR is billet aluminum and I'd trust it. eBay is cheap ****

That rubber is not for balancing the pulley.
