Default Another koni/gc question thread.

I have ordered a set of gc coilovers with custom rates. 500lb fr and 400lb rear.

I have top hats for the front and rear, unsure of how much I am lowering the car but will probably leave a 2-3 finger gap from tire-fender.

I am confused when it comes to valving, Will off the shel koni sports be suitable for theese rates/setup ? I do daily drive the car but it also see's alot of road course action.

Should I use off the shelf koni's ?

I have been suggested by a few to use their SPSS3 valving, I am first of all wondering what this is/means and would it be advised for my setup.

The car is a 1992 integra GSR.

Struts and springs are stock at the moment, only other suspension mod's I have are.

3pt front strut tower brace.
rear 4pt custom strut tower brace (similar to password's)
C pillar bar.
Front lower tie bar.
Custom rear subframe brace( nearly identical to the asr setups for other chassis)
23mm jdm itr rear swaybar.
Stock 92 integra gsr 23mm front swaybar.

The main question is "what do you do with the car?". If it is a street car, I'd suggest that you run the 8041 Sports with normal valving. If it is a pretty serious race or autocross car, then run the 8041 RACE (they are shorter bodies and shorter max length with the SPSS3 racing valving). The RACE units can be used on the street but the ride quality will be needlessly harsh and you will not have the warranty of a street part.

Also if you use the shorter RACE units, you must use the stock upper mounts and not the GC upper mounts. The GC upper mounts are made for use with stock length shocks and will cause installation and droop trouble when put with already short dampers.

It serves primary duty as a daily driver, but it is often on the road course and auto-x.

So off the shelf Koni sport's will be fine for 500lb/400lb spring rates ?

In my opinion, yes.

Also, if your gonna stay high enough for a 2 or 3 finger gap, you probably don't even need the GC upper mounts. At least in the rear. I only have a front pair and I run a zero finger gap with a small 205/40/16 tire. This is just my opinion of course.

AFAIK the Neuspeed Konis have the exact same valving as the normal OTS Sports, they just add another spring perch location, which is unnecessary IMO unlesss you are running stock springs.

I would like to go a little lower than that, around a 1 finger gap but I just really want to be sure I do not limit any travel.
