Default 2-way, and 3-way catalyctic converters

I have a '94 civic ex. I'm trying to pass smog now, and i bought a random technologies catalyctic converter. my brother says they're all 2-way, and i need a 3-way one. when i took my emissions test, my HC was too high, and my NOx was way high. have any of you who've replaced a cat had to make sure and tell whoever you bought it from that it was 3-way and not 2-way? i would have bought a honda one, but the damn thing's $700. the random technologies one looks like it's just one chamber full of things, just like the new one i bought. the honda one looked like it had 2 chambers, one after the other. is this how you can tell between a 2-way and 3-way?
thanks

you have to specifically ask for a 3-way cat.

car-sound makes 3-way catalysts and flow pretty good too.........

I had the same problem with my 93' Si. Bought a Catco cat from Summit, had a shop fit it for $50. Passed emissions no problem. Also, make sure your ignition timing is set correctly, car is in a good state of tune (plugs, etc)

well i already bought one. can you tell if they're 2 or 3 way by looking at them? i asked for one specifically for a civic, so i figured they'd be smart enough to give me the right kind.
