Ever since I installed my new motor, I've had a couple of problems:
1. My speedo is off.
2. Lack of traction.
3. Gearing is super low.
The reason being is my transmission was designed for a 225/45-17. Therefor, my speedometer, is off, and the 4.7 FD feels like a 5.0. Now I came have been thinking through my solutions, and this seems like the best idea. It fixes everything all in one shot.
Install 225/45-17s on my car. Now before you say Bart you've done it, you've finally gone off you rocker. There is a reason.
The other option is only run R compound tires, and be prepared to change them often, that fixes the traction, then I would have to install a speedo calibration unit inline with the speed sensor, the gearing I would most likely live with, or I could install a 4.3 FD.
The second choice would be easier, more conventional, and I would have to run sticky, but pricey R comp tires, most likely RA1's for their multiple heat cycling capability. I could keep the car more stock looking. That is about it. Long trips, would be doable, but I would have to have another set of tires for trips so I would not burn up the R comps. So this is potentially more expensive.
Now by going with the larger wheels, and tires, and fender flares. I could run cheaper sports tires, and keep 1 set of wheels for track, and street. Probably run Azenis, Kuhmo MX, or something. Still be able to travel long distances w/o changing the tires too. It will fix all the problems easily, and effectively. Also if I ever went to an R comp I would have that much more grip.
I talked to my friend at Hasport, and he told me, (his boss runs the 225-45/17) that their CRX handles better than ever before with the larger combo. He assured me that everyone that has driven the car has loved it. Ironically this is the same size tire, Andrie Hartanto used in his ride to victory in H1 last year. Most everyone else uses 15's. Andrie has a EK for those that don't know. I am just frustrated with these problems and I want to make the right decision on this. Not sure how the car would look with flares and a Mugen kit. It does seem like the better idea performance wise though. Any opinions or info I could use to help sway my decision would be greatly appreciated. TIA Guys.
For reference this is Brian Gillespe's Flared car.

I think you're better off posting this on the Road Racing/AutoX forum... Personally, I'd get two sets of wheels and tires..It's difficult to stay competitive especially if you're running half and half tires...half for street/half for racing...

It is posted there as well.

ic...did you hear about the new wider 15 inch hoosier tires supposedly coming out soon? 275/35/15...That's what I'm waiting for for grip....and of course, 15x10 or 11 inch wheels all around.
I guess my question is: How often do you drive long distance in the car?
If it is only once or twice a year, I could see making the swap when neccesary and just running the r compound tires. If its like once a week, I could see that getting irritating really quick. one bonus of the 17's could be a brake upgrade too though..
I wish I had enough hp to worry about serious traction issues...

you dont have to justify your decisions bart, you know what you are doing
if you run across any dumbasses who dont understand why you do what you do, dont worry, they dont matter
just as long as you throw on a sweet rare set of wheels

yeah, people look at me like I'm crazy when i tell them I do not get traction with 15" azenis in first or second. I've been debating about driving on the street with R comps or drag radials.
drag radials FTW!
Ill be driving around on BFG's all day, there are 3 or 4 hondas in the area that have to, with the power they are making.
Time for a gear based boost controller.

dunno, its a pic/scan of a magazine page but its not thats how the Hasport CRX looks like
Bart thats funny because I was thinking of going to wider tires too. I'm waiting for the Hoosiers first. I already run R compound tires Yokohama A032R 205-50-15

He isnt just complaining about the speedo its the fact that when the tranny was geared it was for 17's but now with 15's the gearing is off effectivly hurting power.

If anything its revving faster thru the gears and acceleration is better now with smaller wheels. Like he said, its like a 5.0 FD which would be an improvment on acceleration.

I actually had 17s back in like 2000-2001. I liked the way they looked, and they rode decent too. These tires will need allot more work to fit though with the width I want. I dunno I might just do some R comp 15's on a 7" wheel, and call it a day. From what I hear the extra half inch makes the tire sit allot flatter. If I need to go a distance, throw on the blades, with all seasons. For reference here is a old pic of the CRX with the RH knock off 17's. I don't think it looked to bad.

Of course you don't like them anymore, your on HT now. HT does your thinking.

From what I hear RA1s like about 3deg. I am real low, I'm switching to Koni Race, and 400fr/500rr GC. So I will be able to go lower, and won't have rub cause it probably won't move after I am done saving weight, lol. Plus the Koni races are shorter so they can go lower.
Some 8" wide TE's will look dope, don't you think. I can't believe I just used the term "dope", but it is the only word I can think to describe it. lol

haha...thats funny...naa man I had them on there when I was 17 or so. I am older now, and am looking more towards performance instead of *****.
Sorry about the thread jack bart.
