smoke
ok so i just finished putting my motor into my car but its throwing smoke and my uncle told me its smells like gas smoke i checked everything like spark plugs and took off the oil top to see if its maybe passing oil but no oil so if its with fuel what else could it be and also i drive it and like it runs good throwing smoke and then like i floor it a little bit more and like it wants to go and all of a sudden like it looses power and regains it could it probably be my distribuator that its not adjusted to the right point. Anybody

the motor from a junkyard its a d16a6 and no CELs i barely started the motor yesterday but didnt drive it around the color of the smoke it like i guess white and i think the motor was sitting for a while but when i feel it kinda loose power like when i want to accelerate like all of a suddden it looses power and then it goes back to normal what could that be. maybe the distribuator should i move it.

did u do a leak down test on it or evem a compression test to see if it was a good engine or not b4 u put it in? it would have saved u alot of time...and timing would not cause smoke out the tail pipe....a lil more info on the year of ur car and the year that motor is be it 88-91..
nah..the plugs u have wouldnt couse that..but i would recoment some njk's or even some denso ones.is the smoke real white/does the somke smell like coolant or fuel?get ur self a compression tester from ur local autozone or whatever store is near to you..they usually loan them to you.then post the numbers u have... remember it goes 4.3.2.1
when u barrow the tool it should come with the directions but its simple..it threads in where ur plugs do... depending on mileage it should be in the naighborhood of 165-185....give the piston three rotations and then take a reading..

Not replacing things like that on a junkyard motor is asking for trouble. I hope nothing's seriously wrong. A compression test is a good first test though.

rule of thumb..always do a compression test at the verry least...if possible a leak down test is ur best bet...usually if u buy from a shop they already do it for u and have a warranty...yes i beleive they rent that tool out..i would give them a call b4 hand..
when u do the test..make sure u get the engine to operating temp..this means warm it up for like 15 mins or so....to make sure the pistons are expanded and what not...take the plugs out and take off the relay to ur fuel pump, and make sure throtle is wide open...put in the adapter for the car and make sure u use the short ended one cuz u dont want the piston hittin that **** and expletive some **** up...crank the motor over to get atleast 3 to 5 revolutions..record the psi and than do the same for the other three cylinders..hope this helps out..oh yeah make sure u unplug the distributer, you dont want to get zapped by 100k volts
