Default JDM 5 Lug

Quick question,

I have a 4 lug Type R, im wondering what i would need to do a 5 lug conversion? This is all JDM by the way, in case that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance,

Vlad

JDM axles are 36 mm aside from the USDM 32 mm, and assuming your 4 lug uses 32 mm axles you will need 36 mm axles along with the knuckles, trailing arms and spindles and whatever the brake assembly comes with.

thanks guys,

damn i was hoping it was a simple bolt on procedure, but it seems more complex than that. In the event its a 36mm axel already, what would i need? The reason im asking is because the ITR im getting comes with some stupid bling rims which i hope to sell and just buy the stock type r rims. And since 5 lug stockers look better than the 4 lug i just figured i would go for those,

Thanks anyway

Vlad

It is a bolt on affair. Just somewhat more complicated due to the axles. It's really not that difficult. I haven't tried installing jdm 36mm's but from what i've done with 32mm's it's pretty simple in fact. Just remember everything you unbolted and switch up the components and replace the bolts in their correct spots. And what you would have to do in the case of replacing the axle is just to pop em out, easier said than done i guess. There's a write up somewhere i'll try to get it to you and see if it'll help you out. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/432347

ok not too bad, now i just need to find out where to get those kinda parts in New Zealand... Also my other idea was to get some nice white racing rims (4 lug) and smack the type r center cap on em :D
that might also work lol cause seriously 18 inch blinds on a type r does not look good

you could prolly get the axles from the dealer in NZ, i imagine the itr's over there run the 36mm axles.. 18s are to big on a DC imo

you said you have a 96spec R which is 4 lug, i still believe it runs 32mm axles. if you switch to 5 lug then you would need to go to the dealer

My other idea was getting some aftermarket 4 lug rims and getting the ITR center cap. Would that work?

yes the 4x114.3 type r's use 32mm axles so you would need new axles if you swaped. I like the 4 lug type r wheels, I rock them on my civic. I dont think the 5lugs are that hot to go through all that work, or are you talking the jdm 16's? because I like them even less .

You don't have to swap to 36mm axles. I swapped mine from 4 to 5 and retained the 32mm axles. I just sourced all parts from my dealer for a 01 ITR. I wanted new stuff, not used.

Here are some helpful threads from my experience doing it.

easiest thing is to just track down a 5 lug off of a EK9 Civic Type R. Exact same brakes and lug pattern as the ITR and it uses 32mm axles.

The new stuff route is the way i'm going as well. It will be more expensive in the long run but there should be less headaches as a result, what with everything not being wore out. That should make it a little more worthwhile.
