Default valve seal part# question

besides the price, whats the difference between:
12211-pz1- 003
12211-pz1- 004

and

12210-pz1- 003
" " 004

those are the part #s i got from the dealer. the ones that end w/ 3 are about $5 a piece and the one that end w/ 4 are about $1 each. whats the differnce and why does one cost 5x the other???

TIA

The -003's is the distributor-side seal, which consists of a piece of plastic with a rubber gasket.

The -004's are the camshaft seals on the camgear side (sits b/w the cam and the gear), and is just a rubber ring, which explains its lower cost.

the dist. o-ring is 30110-pa1-732. the cam seal is 91213-pr3-004.

these are the in. & ex. valve stem seals. i found out that the $5 seals are made by arai and the $1 seals are made by nok. is one just better than the other? why would honda use 2 differnt kinds of seals for the same application? and why is one $4 more than the other? $80 a set vs. $16.

The black ones sit on the exhaust side.

Does anyone know the difference between the 2 different valve seals? One's 5x the cost of the other... is it worth it?

In a parts order that we placed about a month and a half ago, we found that the more expensive ones were being phased out for the cheaper NOK seals.

They must have changed parts suppliers along the way and any Arai seals sold recently until now were from current warehouse inventory.

However, that leaves the debate as to which one is better an unsettled matter for an indefinite amount of time. Some people have had scenarios where using the more expensive ones cured an oil burning issue.

Find out what each one is made out of. Viton maybe teflon? Maybe the company that is making them now is just cheaper.

I've used 4 sets of the cheap ones and never had a problem with them. I've personally seen a set with problems and that was b/c they were installed incorrectly.
