BB6 and Handling
seriously, with a stock suspension it handled very well - now with my mods I could outhandle quite a few rwd and awd cars. Only cars I've ever driven that handle better are a 997S, 1st year z06, and the mini cooper S, 06 STi - everything else can't come close.
I believe the SH model was awarded best handling car for under 40k back in 97 or 98.
the 5th gens take heat for having slightly more curb weight, junk automatic transmissions, and a "unique" front end

I got this from the Road Racing / Auto X section. Basically the reason being that because the motor is mounted slightly in front of the shock towers, it has poorer handling compared to something like a Civic HB.

Yeah, btu the 5th gen. Prelude is still no slouch in terms of handling. Weight distribution is important, but there are still other factors to consider.

Yes things like CF hood, light battery, etc. always helps, but you cannot fix the mounting of the motor which is the cause for it being "nose heavy".

Not what I meant, really. I'm talking about stuff like suspension geometry, spring rates, damping, and chassis rigidity. Those are also stuff to look for in terms of handling.

Oh sorry I read that wrong. I would hope it doesn't take a lot for them to handle well.
I was considering picking up a base model, then putting a coilover system on and a limited slip. From there I suppose sway bars, and a good wheel/tire combo.

BB6's handel good stock. They beat stock Evos, Sti's, 240sx etc. times, with little to no modification on the auto x track.

Nice coilovers always help, and so does a rear sway bar. Mot important thing is the tires, though.

If it's just mainly its curb weight, then that can be fixed easily.
For me I wouldn't buy tires first. I would rip apart whatever tires it had first.
Are there any areas in particular about the chassis/suspension that should be addressed first?

i don't think it's gonna be that easy to fix curb weight on a prelude unless you start removing pieces of the chasis itself which will compromise it's structural integrity.

Wow that seems kind of surprising, beating Evo's and STI's? Is this a qualified magazine test or an event that was based upon...just wondering.
True they handle nice but if you really want them to shine get some nice tires, suspension, and rear sway bar
As for curb wieght, not much you can do, some people strip their cars as much as you probably can and keep it street and they're still around 2800lb, give or take 50lb.

How do they compare to RSX-S w/ suspension mods and a nice set of Kuhmo Ecsta MX's? My friend has the one described and is a hell of a driver... Just don't want to be let down too much/at all if I get a Prelude.
