Default Starts, runs, stalls, repeats.

This has just started happening recently. Very awkward.

So Im driving home from school on the 403 west bound to Brantford, all of a sudden the engine bogs then it shuts off! I pull to the shoulder before it complety dies stops rolling.

So I sit there, wondering WTF! I start the car, give it some gas, nothing happens. I start to pull forward a bit and boom again. This time engine light pops up. I get out of the car and pop the hood. Check the fluids, everything seems ok, check the spark plugs, just dandy.
I sit there dumbfounded. I try again, but this time it doesnt turnover. I shut everything down, lights, stereo, anything electrical. Vroom! Car starts, soon as headlights come on, *kaput*it dies.

So I get it towed home thinking it was something stupid. The next day I immediately thought of the alternator and battery. Boom, drop 400 bux for the some new current. I take it for a spin and all of a sudden not even a block from my house it dies. All it does is bog, bog, stall. At some points it even sounds like the car is misfiring.

So now the car sits in the driveway with a big question mark over the hood. I am lost and don't know what this could be. Tested the alternator and battery, both are fine, the battery hits 14v when running and 13.1 when off.

The car will idle no probelm, but once on the raod it will run for a few mins than just cut out.

Car Specs:
89 CRX Si
ZC Motor
ZC ECU
170,000 km
Optima Battery
Champion Alternator
NGK Sparkplugs and Wires

I assumed that this was an electrical issue since the night before it couldnt even turn over with the lights on.

Any other suggestions?

could be main relay, located just above the hood release lever. Do you have any ecu codes?

So I checked the code out today. It's throwing me code 10.
If I read the flashes properly, that's what I saw, 10 short flashes than a pause than it repeats itself.

From the list of codes I have here, its the IAT sensor (Intake Air Temperature).
Can anyone make sense of this?
Still stumped on this, doesn't make sense to me.

Or a guide to where I can find the sensor?

Thanks.

this place is really good, all honda oem parts. i just got an intake air temp sensor for a 91 dx, it was like 11 dollars plus shipping. this place is incidentally quite good for any clips or special screws that you can never find in the junkyard. don't know how it is mounted on that intake but order the screws too as i had to chew the old ones up a bit with vise grips to get mine off.

I'd change the Dizzy cap and rotor, as well as the ignitor. I had a similar problem, and the ignitor was to blame... check for shorted wires as well...

no one caught on to this^

its not throwing a code 10... your reading it wrong. one LOONG blink is ten... short flashes count for ONE. so youll never see 10 short blinks.. it would be just one long blink. no more than 9short blinks will be seen at a time.

remember, there will be a pause between codes.. so make sure your not combining codes.

try to read the code again and get back to us so we can help you better.
but from what your describing, it sounds like you have some type of aftermarket accessory/lighting/gadget hooked up wrong so when any power draw is turned on its killing power to the motor.. hence why it still idles fine.

but like jay "abusedhusband" said.. it MIGHT be the headgasket..keeping compression at idle.. as soon as you drive and put load on it.. its blowing out cylinder pressure into the coolant.. very rare.. but could happen. check for excessive bubbles in your coolant/ smell it for fuel too.. check the oil too for foaming and signs of mixing

but first and foremost.. get back to us with the correct CEL. (ps, theres a sticky in the 92-00 civic forum on how to pull codes correctly.. a video too i believe)
