Stock rods/pistons. Handle high rpms?
hi
as i said early have a B20B/B16a engine in my 92 civic, i also have a mugen ecu with a rev limiter at 9000 rpm, i was planning on changing the rods/pistons but $$$$ problems so decided to run the stock rods/pistons for a few months. ???? is do u think it will be safe to run up to 9000 rpm with the stock rods/pistons? Can they handle the torque and high rpm? Anyone of you guys have experience with this?

Don't do it on a b20. Maybe with a b16 bottom and some ARP rod bolts.
I HIGHLY disagree, im assuming from what you said that you will be upgrading these in the future, so defiantely stay with the b20/vtec. It is absoluely the best B series motor made from stock parts.

going past 9000 is sorta only for pricy B16's or v. expensive B18C's
plus, what sort of power will a B20 make past 8500 anyways?
got a dyno plot?

I am afraid that i do not have dynos in my country so lot of guess work but when i checked on importreview.com the b20b/b16a engines were pulling strong up to 9000 rpm, N/A 242 hp forgot how much torque. Few more mods cams etc but i am planning on doing a lot more to my engine, next thing is JE pistons and crower rods also probably the VAFC controller(about 3 months away). Cams, headers etc about 6 months away.

dont rev to 9000. unless you get stiffer valves, and titanium retainers, and forged rods. Im not saying that you cant, but dont risk it. And untill u get some bigger cams, there is no need to go that high. and please upgrade bottom end, and valvtrain before getting ur cams. That way your motor will be ready to handle what u can throw at it.
