I got my system in the mail and I need help with the wiring since I'm quite unknowledgeable about these kinds of things.

The box that i got included: two horns and a relay.


Before I headed to radio shack I was wondering what kind of wires and other things I might have to buy.

And then I'm having trouble understanding the directions that it came with since its just these two diagrams on the box.





I'm sure I'll be following the first diagram but I was wondering if it really is necessary to connect the relay directly to the battery, or could I use the existing wires from the stock horn.

 

The relay is there to handle the extra power that is required for two large horns, so you would need to run power to it from the battery. However, if you just used one of the two horns (I recommend the LOW tone), you could solder the factory wire to a spade connector to the "+" terminal and body ground the other terminal, skipping use of the relay.

 

Would I be able to use the stock wiring and connect the relay to that? Or does it HAVE to connect to the battery.

And in the first diagram what is connection 86 connecting to?

Why dont u just connect 1 as mentioned above then u would just use the stock wiring.Also connection 86 seems to be connecting to the fuse box.

 

I did this in my ITR. I used the stock horn wires, and both of them worked fine. I did not use any relays.

Worst thing that can happen is if it doesn' work, you will have to wire it up yourself.

You need to wire from the battery because that's where all the power is coming from. The stock wire provides limited amounts of power. All the relay does is allow you to use a limited low-amp source of power to switch on a source of higher amperage power - it is an electrically operated switch. 86 is ground, 85 is in from the stock wiring, 30 is the power from the battery and 87 are out to the new horns. Make sure you put a fuse inline with the wire from the battery to 30. Radio Shack should have anything that is missing and use at least 14 gauge wire if you need to splice/solder new connections.
