Default primering: what grit sand paper?

Alright, so this weekend i plan on doing a relatively quick rattle primer job on my car, im just going to primer it white.

Just want to know what grit i should use to scuff the car before painting?

before you jump to conclusions i will be taping everything up correctly removing moldings, bumper and what not to do a decent paint job.

i was in the process of doing a full paint job, but it has come to a hault because i was kicked out of my uncles gerage because he wants to work on his el camino instead, and im tired of my car looking like complete ****.

also just want to make sure that the correct procedure would be to take moldings and bumpers off, sand the car, wash it, let it dry, tape everything up, paint car. and i beleave i will be using 2 coats.
The car is already white so it will not be hard to paint over it with white primer

start with something above 600 and move to about 1000, no higher than 1500, anything over that isnt necessary I donot believe

how bad is your paint? 800 would be good, just try to get rid of all the clear coat, dont try and get to the metal. if your paint is really bad, do 600.

yeah, one round. just make you sure you get all the clear coat out.

i dont think there is any clear coat even on the car...actually most of it if i remember right we have sanded down when we were filling dents and what not.

the car has no rust now, because we fixed it all, so it should turn out quit well after this. only spot i would get down to the metal is where there is a little surface rust, and ill apple an extra coat to those areas.
