Default how to - BMW X3 key fob swap

first of all before anyone asks, this is a useless mod, none of the buttons work and its just dead weight, just for looks. it serves no purpose.

its my stab at making the crx key more modern looking. and it will match my itr non srs wheel as well.

tools needed:
dremel (with cutting wheel and sanding wheel)
something to pry open the key once you get mad and tired of cutting.
hot element (available in any kitchen, haha)

start off by carefully cutting around the key with the cutting wheel, you have to go actually quite deep. and there is probably an easier way of opening it but this is just what i did.
so after breaking a few cutting wheels its mostly seperated, then just pry it open.

then all you have to do is pull out the BMW key and hold it to you honda key and see roughly where you need to cut.
i really roughly eyed it up and cut, i cut across once and then i cut each ear off so it would fit.

then i heated up an element and let the key sit on it for a couple minutes. then pulled it off (with pliars) and pressed it into the plastic key holder, it very easily melted into place.
and once the key is in and cooled down its in quite solid, i wasnt able to pull it out with moderate force even.

and then i sanded both sides down flat so they met as best as i could get them to.
and i also had to sand down the key slightly so it was more flush with the case.

all the heat made the key look like trash, but later im gonna rub it with some metal cleaner and it should shine again.

finally i was at work and i have access to a vinyl printer and lamitator, so i laminated a honda decal (round) about 11mm wide that i stuck over the bmw one.

ill let the rest of the pics speak for themselves.
any quetsions let me know.

1. I am not sure how many different key cuts there are for hondas....but i know there aren't many haha.

2. In my old car, I frequently used other peoples keys (Nissan hardbody truck, ollllld *** Jetta both come to mind) to unlock and start.

3. If a theif wants your car....he will get it. Regardless of how "careful" you think you are being on the internet.

It isn't something I would spend money on, but it looks pretty nice man. Good write up.

I kinda like how it turned out. If the buttons would work with your car that would be awesome.

seems like alot of time to just make your keys look different though...

Christ, some people are paranoid around here. OP, I think it's a pimptastic, albeit useless mod.

Ok, at one of my past jobs I made keys. I will just tell you NO normal guy is going to be able to make a print of a key from a pic. You would have to be GOOD....but it would just be easier for them to slim jim the bitch anyways.

this is about as lame as picking up someone elses atm receipt and claiming its yours with a large figure printed on it.
